2pac's success = coincidence?

Do you think that 2pac is that popular because of various coincidences that happened to him during his life? Sure he was popular before and I'm not talking about coincidences that made him become a rapper but getting shot, various beefs and finally the fact that he died seriously affected his success. The question is - how much? What do you think?

I think that outside influences definitely have an impact to some degree. For instance, Tupac and Biggie came along at a crucial time in hip-hop; they are the legends that everyone today looks back on and pays tribute to. If their careers hadn't blossomed during that time, I think it's fair to say they may have not had as much influence. And I say that with the personal belief that Tupac was the greatest rapper of all time.

Moreover, I think there are numerous talents that never get their shot, so to speak. So you have to have a certain amount of luck/opportunity/coincidence to get that shot and make it big, as Tupac and Christopher did.

He had some lucky breaks for sure.

Dan Quayle targeting him, out of all the rappers with violent lyrics he could have picked, helped him out.

The role in 'Juice' helped him start portraying an image that was more marketable than his previous socio-political image that had more in common with Public Enemy et al.

The fact that he had the opportunity to join Death Row, who's notoriety matched his was a big PR boost.

The first shooting, whilst it was a very fucked up thing to happen, did wonders for his PR.
Same for 50 Cent, he played that situation to his advantage even though 50 wasn't even very famous when he was shot.

Of course, the murder made him an instant legend, not unlike many popular musicians who die young (Kurt, Jimi, Jim Morrison, Ian Curtis, Bob Marley)

It's probably about the same as anyone here.

My parents meeting was a total coincidence.
I could have been three steps from getting hit by a bus. etc.

Did you make this thread because you had a debate about Pac being overrated? "He's not overrated, only 8% of his success was due to chance!! Hater!!!"

well i wouldn't say his success was all a coincidence, but the controversy surrounding him in the mid 90's only helped to get his name out into the public even more than it already was. his notoriety definitely helped his success reach even greater heights.

Pac was an artist and a business man. I think that he had plans and excecuted them. He had connections due to his black panther ties, I think that gave him a head start. Tupac could have gone down various avenues, and probably he was travelling more than one route at once. Pac made moves, and he was quick.

the things that happened to tupac that made him notorious aren't things anyone can control. if someone shoots you, what do you say in the press conference the next day so the people have a positive impression of you and your case? everything you do is something you do, you put it out there, you wait for people's reaction and then you know if you made it or not. you can't predict that shit. some people have better intuition than others, some people are cleverer, but that shit can only take you so far. in the end, it's luck or coincidences that come into play, regardless of your intentions. intellectually speaking, there are probably people on this very board that are smarter than pac was. he was narrow-minded on a lot of issues, whereas in other cases he used pipe-dreams of an ideal world to back up his arguments. for example, it's a good point that reagan has the white house with a hundred rooms with no homeless people in them, but how would you select the homeless people that get to live in the white house if the president opened the doors anyway? only a few homeless people are that fortunate? i mean, it's a nice idea and it addresses a very relevant problem, but his proposed solution is not an actual solution, just an analogy to put forth his point. practically the idea could cause more harm than good. however, pac spoke about it as if he was 100% right. it just wasn't thought through, but he stood for it like it is, and that shows a problem with his integrity. not that he lied or said shit he didn't mean, you have to remember that he was a young guy. he was my age when a lot of that shit happened.

people who like pac because they think he was some supermencsh most likely like him for the wrong reasons. there are other traits with pac that are far more commendable. in the end, as an adult you should recognize that he was simply just another human like yourself.

It may sound controversial for Yeshua and many other die hard Pac fans and I think this point wasn't ever used here yet.

Usually rappers are not too bright, most of them are not even intellectually mediocre. We love Pac because he was more intelligent than other artists and had talent to expose it with his songs, considering that those 2 things are really rarely combined he was a shining gem as a rap artist.

the black panther angle is what seperates 2pac from anyone else
Exactly! This is what I am saying. No other rapper has has such a stronger political background. His black panther ties connected him to the most notorious people of that political party. Tupac would be nothing without the black panthers, he had the tattoo on his arm, and his mother was one. Lets not forget his background. Pac played and benefited off of this, he knew he would come off of this in the end
