A film that represents your life (as close as you can)

From Smackey's US thread I got to thinking.... A lot of people in America, not necessarily on here, think that the UK is like they see in Mary Poppins.

I was thinking of a film that showed a similar coming of age story as my own....

There is one. And it's called "Goodbye Charlie Bright"... So if you are bored, check it out.

I'd imagine most inner city kids in the UK these days lives are similar to "Kidulthood" or "Bullet Boy".

Are there any that come close to yours? I'd be especially interested in watching if you have come from a war torn country. Can be a foreign language film.... But better not be "Get Rich or Die Tryin' "

Can't think of any that are that similar to my situation, but I can give you some movies about people close to me that went through a lot more of it than I did in terms of how things were during those years.

More Hollywood-ish movies (which I find to be some of the better despite being American):

- Welcome to Sarajevo
- Harrison's Flowers'
- Shot through the heart

From the Balkans:

- Nikogarsnja zemlja (No Man's Land)
- Lepa sela lepo gore (Pretty Villages, Pretty Flame)
- Grbavica (Also known as Grbavica: Land of my dreams)

Those come to mind at the top of my head.

Edit: I was gonna add 'Zivi i Mrtvi' (The living and the dead), but it starts in 1943, but it connects the story to 94. So, it's up to you if you want to see that one. It's recent, 2007 if I remember.

I don't watch movies often to begin with so the only ones I can think of that even vaguely resemble my life are:

Good Will Hunting. Obviously I'm not nearly as smart as he is in the movie, and I didn't have anywhere close to the same upbringing.

Alpha Dog. This movie sort've represents 14-18 for me. Again, I was in no way hardcore enough to kidnap someone over a drug debt but I did spend a fair amount of time running with that crowd.

Nah I rarely watch movies and if I do they are usually comedy movies when I need some laugh and I wouldn't want to say "American pie".

I imagine Britain to be like Shane Meadows' This is England or Alan Clarke's Made in Britain, Tim Roth's debut, and there's nothing in the news to suggest otherwise. :D

Closest for me is probably Finding Forrester, maybe a little more dark in some aspects. There are a lot of things I dealt with that the main character in the movie never did, but the basic premise is relatively the same
