Tupac Shakur's mother, Afeni Shakur, is seeking to prevent his former label, Death Row Records Inc., from selling the late rapper's unreleased recordings as part of a bankruptcy settlement.
Shakur sought an injunction in California federal bankruptcy court Friday claiming Death Row was attempting to sell Shakur material that belonged to the rapper's estate. According to a 1997 settlement, unreleased recordings should have been turned over to the estate.
During Death Row's bankruptcy proceedings, however, the label advertised an album's worth of unreleased material to potential buyers as the "jewel in the crown" of the Death Row assets.
Afeni Shakur and the company she established, Amur Entertainment, requested an injunction after the label failed to confirm the songs would not be included in the bankruptcy settlement. The court was expected to consider the request within a month when it decides whether to permit the label to release an album with the unreleased tracks to help pay off its debts.
And thus continues to fall of the most storied hip-hop label of all time. Technically, Death Row has been dead since '96, when Interscope cut them off and all of their rappers worth a shit went on to greener pastures. Their only saving grace since then has been archival material, with 2Pac's stuff being worth the most. It makes you wonder if Suge Knight actually has a full 2Pac record worth a shit, or if this is all actually a bluff. Death Row and Amaru (Afeni Shakur's label) have coexisted peacefully for ten years, but it would make sense that Death Row was holding back something from their business partners, giving Knight's history of shady dealings. Still, after a decade of mostly failures and the questionable success of Pac's Life (It didn't even go gold), you'd think both Amaru and Death Row would have already released all of the material they'd deemed profitable. Whoever's buying Death Row may wind up with some hit tracks like "Answerin Machine Messagez" and a "2Do List".

The writer of this article had some funny things to say about Death Row. I also highlighted in bold something I thought was a little funny too lol
