An aptly named winner of the 2008 Wildlife Photographer of the Year contest, "Deadlock" was captured in the dead of night in a Belizean rain forest.

U.K.-based David Maitland observed from midnight to 3 a.m. as a rare Morelet's tree frog doggedly refused to become supper for a cat-eyed snake--and still didn't see the conclusion.

"I would love to have seen them go their separate ways, but I was exhausted," the photographer said. "The frog was all the time trying to pull the snake off, but the snake just wouldn't let go.

"This frog is actually incredibly rare, which lends to the bizarre nature of the whole encounter," he said.

Once on Nat Geo or something, I saw something even more remarkable than Chron's video there. It was also a toad or frog, rainforest creature I believe, it got totally eaten by a (much bigger) lizard. So the lizard sat there for a few minutes, after 5 it laid down, after 10 it was dead. The little frog had such poisonous skin, the animal that eats it quickly dies. Then fucking-freaky-as-fuck, the mouth of the lizard starts moving, and the little frog crawls out again.

Unfortunately I forget the name or species of that particular beastie. But crazy to see.

Obviously, but it weren't those. It was more of a toad like animal, not brightly coloured. And bigger than a dart frog.

Actually now that I think of it it was a pretty stupid guess. I think only snakes with enough "counter" venom will attack brightly colored frogs.

I want a pet toad now. They're so sophisticated

Cane toads came up, yeah, but those are huge fuckers. I really think it was some type of rainforesty frog. I'll do some more digging.

I just read this, which was rather interesting:

Spiders are often attracted by the beautiful dart frogs and try to kill them in an approach. However, it is too late: the poison released by the frog’s skin glands located on the back and around the ears has fulfilled its purpose. The spider dies and is already a suitable meal for the frog. When this small amphibian feels threatened (if touched by a human hand or bitten by a carnivorous animal), its poison glands reflexively expel the toxin through a number of canals. The substance has a specific smell and bitter, peppery taste that causes vomiting. Therefore, the animal that has bitten the frog soon needs to let it out of its mouth.
Poisonous Animals: Poison dart frog (Dendrobates, Phyllobates)

The case I'm talking about was different, though. The big lizard totally ate the little frog (there was a big size difference), gobbled him whole. Then it took a few minutes and the lizard lied down, and then it was dead within another few. And then the little frog actually crept out of the dead lizard's stomach. That's what made it so stick out for me in my head. He didn't escape the jaws of death, no he escaped the fucking stomach of death, lol. He was in there for minutes. Not just stuck in a snake's mouth, but inside a fuckin huge lizard.

This particular toad was swallowed whole by a dog and spent 40 minutes inside. After getting the dog to throw up:

Both lived.
