Okay, so this situation of mine where im trying to build for the future and see everyone else living for today with no care for tomorrow (i.e. other students, and other people i know).

what do you guys do or what is your perspective on this?

Blow your money and get everything you want now because you might not be here tomorrow, or struggle now, build for the future and enjoy the life you've worked so hard for?

This is my question: when you live for today, use all of your resources and had your enjoyment i.e. money etc and tomorrow becomes today, you've not saved any money what are you going to do next since you've had your mindset already shaped to 'live for today'?

**Im not suggesting that any of you are like that, so the word 'you' is used in general and addresses people who 'live life fast'.**

im going to give my reply after i get some responses...

Thank you.

You don't have to decide between one or the other. It can be a mix of both, a balance. I see people with steady jobs who go on vacations often, have material things they want, go out on the weekend, yet still make money and "build for the future". It's about prioritizing your time, budgeting your money, etc.

But the answer to your question is right there. If you live for today, there's no mindset for next. There's no tomorrow, it's always today. Next is today. You make the money, spend it, then just keep repeating the cycle. That's without thinking whether you can actually live like that. I chose not to consider practicalities.

I think what was said above is true. You gotta find a balance for both. It won't be good living day-to-day on edge about money.

I've at that crossroad in life where I don't know how much money is enough money. And this goes hand in hand with the career path I'm going to choose. Is $80K enough, assuming I get there? Or $400K? At what salary point does it not matter how much more you make over the other? And how much substance does living in a nice house, driving nice cars, etc. have at that point in life? And will someone marry you over someone else because you make $100K more than the other person.

There's a lot tied in with the question, I feel.

oh sh*t, you ruined the thread. i meant if you had to chose one or the other (hence only 2 options in the poll) - which would it be?

because i see people who dont find the balance and its all spend spend spent with no care about saving up money for a mortgage, or have a family of their own, or get a decent car etc...

^But that's a stupid question to ask.

1. Would you rather fuck a cow or lose your mother?

Fuck a cow, you say?

Cowfucker.

Would you rather lay on your death be thinking "I wish I would have planned for my future better. I wish I had a house, a car and 12 degrees to leave behind." or "I wish I would have lived my life to the fullest. I wish I had experienced more and taken more chances."

I don't think living all one way is the right way but if I had to choose I would live my life for today.

i live for today. i dont see any point in doing anything else. i'm not going to have children and i doubt that i will ever get married. i see people all the time who did the "smart" thing and tried to set themselves up for the future, only to see there investments and superannuation go to shit.

i will probably die a young age also, so i may aswell have fun while im here

I always lived for today because I never expected to live long. My own mother died when I was 5 so I've always had this idea in my head that I wouldn't live long. But I find myself thinking differently these days.

I had a healthy balance. Especially when I was earning loads of money. I managed to save a a lot of money, and done very well in stocks. I managed to buy a $1 Million house at 25. However last year I lost $400K. SO I am rebuilding again. Long story. But I will either adapt and be rich, or I will fail and still hopefully be happy. The biggest thing I have learnt is that for financial success, you usually have to take risks.

If you don't mind sharing, was it natural causes or something else?

Did your job have you making a mil or was it a lucky investment?
