PHYSICS is an unhealthy line of work in today's Iran. A few days ago, 32-year-old Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan died in his car after two motorcyclists attached a magnetic charge to the door. Roshan can be seen among the men in white coats, beaming modestly behind President Ahmadinejad, in a photo taken a few months ago.

Roshan was not the first and nor will he be the last casualty of a covert war designed either to dissuade Iran from acquiring a bomb, or to prompt retaliatory missteps that will trigger an all-out onslaught by Israel or the US against Iranian nuclear facilities.

(Is Stephen Hawking next?)

Then there's this story:

http://physicsworld.com/cws/article/news/48292

Astrophysicist Steve Rawlings, 50, a fellow at St Peter's College in Oxford, was found dead on the evening of Wednesday 11 January. Thames Valley Police have now launched a murder investigation following the arrest of a 49-year-old man – to be Oxford mathematician Devinder Sivia – in connection with the incident.

(So an Oxford mathematician killed an Oxford astrophysicist. Those brainiac maniacs! Is Stephen Hawking next?)

Basically, the future looks like this:

1. Iran retaliates, perhaps by killing some Jews and Americans, by closing the Strait of Hormuz, or both.
2. The US launches an attack to regain control of the Strait. Israel attacks Iran. War! WHOO HOOOOO!

But I doubt Ahmadinejad or the Ayatollah has the balls.
