The Angels That Fall, The Angels That Jump

okay, all these religious threads over the few years i've been around have all been informative. but i think it's time the others voiced how they feel. the ones that don't know, don't care, don't believe, or are just plain curious. and for the truly faithful out there, your words are welcomed as well. everyone could contribute to this i think. and yes this is long, so click something else if it's that big a problem.

this is an on going thing as i think about it, so i'll probably post a part two of this. but for now i'm going to stick to one question to get things started.

and that question is why? why do you believe in your religion? and i stress the importance of YOU.

i don't want what your preacher, mother, father, or whoever told you. i want your reason.

now this isn't to bash or disgrace anyone's beliefs. but i do think it could help understand better.
--------------
i'll be the first answer to get shit rolling. now me, i believe that we don't know. i believe this because of many factors. one being that i wasn't there when whatever happened. in fact none of us were there when it happened. there is no real reliable account of what went down in that particular time (the time in which the holy books are based).

1) our references. we only have the references of these books, which for all we know, could be some kind of fairy tale from that era. but at the same time, for all we know, these books could actually be the real deal.
however, i'm sure we've all seen examples of how our planet's history is bias and jaded. and those traits could have easily slipped into the holy texts of the world. i'm sure a more educated person could even point some examples in them, but i'm not the guy.

2)the other thing is the religions themselves. i literally mean the religion"S". if something happens for a fact... it happens just as fact says. so what i can't understand, is if one religion is correct, why have hundreds of others?
it's like an eye witness telling their account of the crime. and then another eye witness talking about the same crime, but saying something totally different. and then another witness talking about the same crime and saying something totally different and then on and on. see what i'm gettin at? i mean, really who do you believe?

3)the other thing that i don't understand is the hypocrisy i see in most society today. folks, in one of these books a man kills his son (or he attempted, i forget which one it was) cause a voice he hears tells him too. now, tell me one person that has done that in today's society and was highly spoken of for doing (or trying) so.

i've seen people religious to the core, middled aged men with a strong faith that a man was ressurrected and lifted into the sky. but you tell'em you saw a ghost in your kitchen and they look at you crazy. when really, what the difference?
--------

i'll let that sit for awhile and see what others have for their reasons.
this is just chip of a very big ice berg i've got in my head. but i think i've gotten my point across with it. cause like i said before, i find it hard to believe that any of us really know. so, it's just difficult for me to pick a religion like talkin bout. hence, my open mindedness.

well, hot damn. 25 views and nobody has anything to contribute? nobody has their own reason to share? nobody has nothing? it's not like i'm gonna sit here and put holes in your shit. i'm not lookin for religious arguments, i want expression, man.

eh, fuck it. if that's how yall feel then....
