The movie Scarface's influence on Pac

I watched Scarface last night for the first time in 8 years and never realised how much that one movie had influenced Pac, all through it I was picking up on the things he said, the way he said it and the way he looked at people. Here's a some things I noticed in Scarface that Pac used in his work;

Made Niggaz movie : when Pac and his homeboys walk in on Piggy and Buff after Pac has been wounded, this whole scene is lifted from the Scarface almost word for word.

Scar on his face : both times Pac played a villian in 'Bullet' and 'Above the Rim' he had the same scar on his face as Tony Montana (anyone else notice that?)

Fuck all Y'all : the into where Pac says "fuck em I don't need nobody", this is in the movie where Tony is sitting in his bath after arguing with his wife and best friend, Pac even says it in Tony's accent.

Nothing 2 lose : "Say goodbye to the bad guy, the one you fucked when you passed by", from the famous scene in the restuarant where Tony is yelling at all the other diners about him being the "bad guy".

Fuck 'em all : Tony yells this at his boss lopez

I'm losing it OG : the intro has the sample of Tony yelling at the other diners, I don't know if this actually was on the OG or added in by someone later.

Also, there's that footage where a young Pac is impersonating Tony.


I was thinking that Pac must have been obsessed with that movie and last night I discovered a new found admiration for it too. It made me think about "12 monkeys" when they say that movies stay the same but when you watch one you haven't seen in years you have a different reaction to it, the movie hasn't changed but you have.

Anyone notice any other "homages" to Scarface by Pac?

Mr Matt, in my opinion this is a really good post coz you have brought up a valid point that not to many 2pac fans discuss. I also watched the movie and I was amazed at the influence it had on 2pac. I noticed some of points you brought up when I watched it, some of them I missed out on As corrected, the scene is from '2 of ameraikaz most wanted'. 2pac did a pretty good job in his video using that scene coz maybe he saw it as a reflection of what happened to him.

When I watch MTV cribs and I see how many artists have a Scarface picture in their houses, I tend to think that 2pac would have had a whole room dedicated to the character.

Most ppl have it just cuz someother dude has it and that makes them Gz. I dont know if ya seen Cribs at Trick Daddy but Trick even has a cigar that waz used by Al Pacino on that movie...Thats so gangsta

Ofcourse the movie influenced a lil bit pac cuz it´s about the underdog who came up. But i guess it´s a inspiration for a lot of people especially the poor/ minorities. It was not his favourite movie, i thought it was´the untouchables´

There was an article here in the papers like a competition of who was most worthy of being in boys bedrooms in the hood......pac won with one point.....they talked about clothes....like pacs bandana and scarfaces holster(dont know if its spelled that way).....they talked about the girl they had....who was the hardest and about the people they hanged with......pac won mostly cause he was real and scarface is fictional.......but it was a good article.....

Tony Montana influenced Pac a lot, that's a fact. And as someone said that Pac tried to be Scarface in Juice. Don't give a fuck attitude. In the Pac case I like the influence cause it was real, not just words.

But I think it's silly that every rapper claim to like Tony Montana nowadays, having pics of him, wearing T-shirts. Because they like his rawness but all they can do i s just speak their mouth.

As mentioned before, the full-length 2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted video is heavily influenced by Scarface. I'm going to break it down right here.

* In the beginning, Pac tells his friend to call Piggie to say "I did it," just like how Tony had his friend phone Frank in the movie Scarface.
* Pac walks in shot up with his arm in a sling with Syke and E.D.I. Tony walks in with Manny and another friend in the same manner
* When Pac's friend calls, Pac asks who it is, and Piggie says it was Faith, who Pac allegedly hooked up with. When Tony's friend calls, Tony asks who it is, and Frank says it was Elvira, who Tony ended up with after the incident.
* When it's clear that Pac knew that Piggie was lying, he begs for his life, and Pac says that he won't kill him, but his homies end up doing it. When it's clear that Tony knew that Frank was lying, the same thing happens.
* In the courtroom scene, Pac is wearing an outfit in the style of Tony's (with the big collars on the shirt).

And here's some more FYI. So it's been said that the New York dude King Tut was involved in Pac's first shooting. In the intro scene of the 2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted video, there is a statue of the Egyptian King Tut right behind Piggie, perhaps symbolizing that they were connected in some way...

I don't really understand what you talking about, sure the start of 2 of americas most wanted is the scene from scarface, and he also dropped a few lines from the movie in songs, it aint no big thing, the movie came out in 1984 i think, he probally watched it to death like the rest of us.

i have the anniversery version of scarface and on the second disk they have all these hip-hop ppl talkin on how scarface influenced them and hip hop in general

I agree with you, the movie is great but I think the admiring part isnt that Tony ended up destroying himself, I like it because its shows what power can do and if you go down that path Tony did you'll end up with more stress than you can handle. I dont think anyone here could say they want to be like Scarface, maybe just feared like him.

Pac definately had massive Scarface influence, but so did alot of rappers. The tough guy image and all. Its like Crooked I called his album 'Say hi to the bad guy' and theres a Soundtrack out full of hip hop songs inspired by the movie. I like that 2 of Americas Most Wanted video, didnt know about the King Tut picture in it though.
