Murder suspect Jose Tavarez holds a whisky bottle up to slain teen Liliana Alvarez's year-old niece in family photo. Tavarez allegedly shot Alvarez to death in jealous rage.

March 8, 2005 -- Just an hour before a jealousy-enraged Queens man blew away his teenage girlfriend, he managed to hide his gun from cops who stopped their car, her sister said yesterday.
Police pulled over the car carrying José Tavarez, 23, his tragic girlfriend, Liliana Alvarez, 19, her sister Wendy, 18, and a pal who was driving, at Suydam Street and Wyckoff Avenue in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn at about 4 a.m. Sunday, the NYPD said.

Wendy said her sister — who was sitting in the back seat with Tavarez — was angrily asking him why he had a gun in his pocket, and he replied "none of your f - - - ing business," the sister said.

When the girls got to their Cypress Avenue home in Ridgewood, they tried to lock Tavarez out of the house, but he beat on the door, demanding to be let in, the sister said.

Eventually, Liliana gave in, telling Wendy in an eerie prediction, "I'm a woman, I'm going to defend myself. If he kills me, he kills me."

Shortly afterward, Wendy left the pair together because they appeared to have made up, she said.

"When I left, they were hugging," Wendy said.

Then a shot suddenly rang out and Tavarez was banging on her mother's door screaming, "Call 911! Call 911! I just killed your daughter."

Tavarez sped to Kennedy Airport, boarded a plane and was arrested less than six hours later in the Dominican Republic.

He was flown back to New York yesterday and was expected to be arraigned in Queens today.

Tavarez regularly pushed and shoved Liliana in drunken rages, her family said.

He became angry Saturday night because other men had been looking at the pretty teen at the club where they had spent the evening, her sister said.

The victim's family said Liliana had bruises on her body and appeared to have been beaten before she was shot.

Liliana's mother, stepfather, two younger brothers and her 3-year-old daughter from a previous boyfriend were asleep in the house when the murder took place.

In January, Tavarez had pushed Liliana a snow bank, causing her to miscarry. Six days later, he punched Wendy in the face while she was trying to defend her sister, the family said.

"She stayed with him because she loved him. She made the wrong choice," Wendy said. "My mother didn't like that guy. Neither did I. Me and my cousin told her he was too crazy."

Liliana met Tavarez nine months ago while she was recovering from a beating from a previous boyfriend who had smashed her over the head with a bottle in a restaurant, said a cousin, Maria Diaz, 20.

Her child, Marilaysi Ortiz, was being cared for by Ortiz's mom last night, said the cousin.

Her wake will be held today and tomorrow from 4 to 9 p.m. at the San Juan Funeral Home at 317 Central Ave. in Bushwick.

damn, thats fucked up. R.I.P

also
"She stayed with him because she loved him." i dont mean to be rude but this is the most naive behavior ive ever seen, if a guy is abusing her causes her to have a misscarage, she should have left him, "love"

Well, he's an asshole yeah, but like Silleone said, there were mistakes made on her part and not to meantion her family's. If he was beating her and people knew that, something should have been done. Why any woman would stay with a man that treats them like that is what's really disturbing. She said at one point, "I am a woman, I'm gonna defend myself," well she should have done that a hell of a lot sooner and got a fucking restraining order or had the bastard locked up for assault before he had the opportunity to do worse. There's no love in a situation like that. Naive is the perfect word.
