I'd probably have to say the THQ produced UFC Undisputed series with number 3 being the pinnacle of MMA fighting games. The EA produced ones haven't got shit on them.

I like Mortal Kombat, but I also liked the Dead or Alive series. Not because of the boobs, but actually, because of the combat system - it was the first game that had a more advanced system of counters and grapples. Also, the aesthetics are pleasing. I was mind blown when I first saw Dead or Alive 2 on Dreamcast, then 3 on the first Xbox. They were the most visually appealing games of their times.. Plus there's the most boobs.

I loved the MMA Undisputed games. They were excellent. The EA MMA games are garbage. I tried them when they were free for a week on Xbox, uninstalled after 10 minutes.

I haven't played EA UFC 3 so maybe it's gotten better but I doubt it. The other 2 games were so slow moving and there didn't feel like there was any power to the shots. In undisputed 3 you connected with a good shot it felt like you did. Fuck I miss that game

No mention of Tekken?

Mine changes all the time. I liked Street Fighter II (and all the variants) when I was younger along with Mortal Kombat and Tekken. I enjoyed Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story as well even though it's hardly a proper fighting game.

I used to play Tekken 3 a lot back in the PSX days and loved it. Didn't really enjoy the later Tekken games as much though. I found the fighting mechanics a bit simple for my liking. It's surely a fun game to play with friends though, as the simple fighting mechanics mean anyone can just pick up the controller, learn the controls fast and have fun. It gets boring quickly unless you're trying to be really competitive. Same with Street Fighter and Virtua Fighter for me.

I started playing Tekken from Tekken 2. Tekken 3 was cool but I never owned it. Tekken 4 was good - really addictive and Tekken 6 was good too although I hardly played it after buying it.

I found the controls and gameplay of Soul Calibur to be awful. For me, it's not as fluid or as satisfying as the likes of Tekken.
Maybe you just sucked at it.

Soul Calibur has basically the same fighting engine as Tekken except with weapons.

Hell - Yoshimitsu is a regular character in both and I seem to recall Heihachi in one as well, and they play exactly the same, so not sure what you're talking about.

Yeah, I probably did. I only played it twice with the kids on the ward at work (in comparison to growing up playing other fighting games a whole lot more often).

Trust me - it didn't feel anything like Tekken in terms of being fluid. I think I needed to have played it more often. Yoshimitsu was the fighter I felt most comfortable playing with because I knew his moves but even he felt different to play with.

Do you have a PS4? The new game is dropping in a couple months, give it another shot and if it has online multiplayer then we can have a match or two.

Yeah got a PS4 but won't be buying any new games as I just don't have the time to play them anymore. I'm only interested in a couple of games here and there which is also why I don't subscribe to PS Plus because it wouldn't be good value for me.

Maybe I'll subscribe at some point in the future but for now I might check out the demo.

I never liked Tekken. My wife loves it though and is a pretty big nerd about it. I might buy whatever was the latest version of it.

Soul Blade was my shit though. Can still remember all the characters and their fighting styles off hand.

But fighting games aren’t my thing really. I get bored of them pretty quick.
