Why do people buy at Walmart?

Seriously, does low quality satisfy you? Do you buy groceries there?
I remember when Walmart opened a few stores in Europe and quickly closed them because they were literally empty, no customers at all. The amount of shitty stuff there was unbelievable.
Why buy something 10% cheaper and 80% more shitty?
Americans, how can you eat food bought there?

Explain.

But this stuff is inedible and unhealthy.

You can as well buy stuff from your local grocery store or something.

They got the same food as anywhere else, but usually cheaper. They got good brand names too. It's not health food, of course, but neither is most of the stuff in a supermarket. But most people don't go to Walmart for groceries. They go for the other stuff. Towels, plastic stuff, DVDs. It's no worse stuff than any other store. But a reason to boycott them is because they displace other businesses in the area and most of their stuff comes from China. And China pollutes and uses slave labor.

Aldi, Lidl are all cheap European grocery chains. Their products are pretty good though.
Yes, but I had an opportunity to visit one European Walmart in Germany a few years ago. It was MUCH worse. It was the first time when I saw literally nearly rotten fruits on sale. I also bought some no-name cd-rs there (as they didn't have any branded ones) and they didn't even work..

Usually Polish people buy groceries at various marketplaces where everything is usually fresh and tasty with no chemistry but I sometimes visit Carrefour to buy various appliance and it's much better than what I saw at Walmart.
I also bought one pineapple and a few lemons there and while they were starting to get soft to the touch they were still edible.

There are a few lidls here but usually only old and poor people buy there. I wouldn't ever drink a no-name coke or eat some no name yoghurt from there. Though they also have some good stuff there, I agree.

I'd rather eat less of better food considering it's 10-20% more expensive. Same with other stuff. At least it works.

Even when we didn't have a lot of money, we always paid extra to get good food. You can't put a price on your health and nutrition. Fucking bums sit outside of nice restos at closing times just to get a free meal.

Exactly.

Walmart is no different from other stores when it comes to groceries. At least here in Ontario. I buy groceries sometimes from there if they have a deal on something or if no other store is open because walmart is usually open until midnight.

But most people go for the other stuff.

the kellogg's product you buy at wal mart is the same kelloggs product you would buy at any other chain grocery store...same as just about any other product. I go there because where I live the only other show in town is krogers, and honestly krogers never has fresh bread so I refuse to shop there. wal mart also has the perks you can get your oil changed while you shop, it has a bomb ass subway inside because there is so much foot traffic in the wal that subway is always baking fresh bread.

I don't know how it is in the US but either your walmarts are better or other shops have worse food.
On the other hand I'm that kind of person who dislikes bread that is older than a few hours and would never buy meat from any supermarket.

I can't stand walmart. I will usually try my best to avoid even going in the muthafucka. But sometimes when they have a real good deal on dvds or blurays i end up going in there and then i end up regreting it when i see the long fuckin lines where it takes longer to pay for my fuckin items than it did to actually pick them out.

Normally i buy my meat from Carnicerias which are mexican meat markets. I would never buy fresh groceries from walmart aside from frozen food, chips, or shit like that.

^^ Same.

When it comes to junk food, go to WalMart, they're good for candies and stuff, but fruits, meats, breads, eggs... Get the fuck outta here.
I'm used to meat markets where they slaughter the cow in front of you and throw the liver at you while screaming: "YOU BUY IT. YOU BUY IT". lol

:D

From how you described it, I think the ones in the US have higher standards or have better access to fresh stuff. But people who buy food there, don't usually go to get the freshest stuff. They go for anything in boxes, cans, bags, or jars, which are just as good there as anywhere else. (And meat is foul fresh or not.)

walmart own asda, but asda are decent. of course asda (not walmart) will be selling the best quality products they can afford to according to their pricing.

so this is how it seems: a large company who sells poor quality groceries owns a smaller company who sells better groceries than they do.

You asked the right question but provided the wrong reasons why people boycott wal-mart.

It's everything Jokerman said, plus:

1. they're really pushy with their suppliers and are able to get the best prices + they have a superb supply-chain management system
2. Allegations of fraud and tax evasion in corporate management
3. Low pay for store employees
3. Not unionized, no health benefits

as people said, Wal-Mart usually has the same products as all other places.
