I may go vegan

Coonie.

I think you are too young to have done any damage to your body yet. It's never too soon to change your way of living to a more healthy way. But I eat a lot of poor food in my teens, as most teenagers do. 6 cans of coke a day. Fried food. I had a cholesterol test and it was very healthy. I believe you are probably more resilient to it when you are younger.

As for your GIT. You probably just have IBS caused by your (very) poor diet.
IBS has definitely come up in searches. In more dire symptoms, Crohn's.

I know a bit about Crohns. If it is. Send me a PM. But.. I don't think it is. You would be tired beyond belief, literally unable to move by the end of the day. And you would have severe pain in your stomach, they say it's comparable to Labour pains in Women.

You would also have diarrhea and possibly blood and mucus in your stool.

Coonie, I hope for your sake you don't have anything wrong with you. Going vegan is the right step.

As proven in "Forks Over Knives", veganism can reverse the onset of many diseases if caught early enough.

I just saw my friend last night who was on the BMI borderline of being considered obese, the last time I saw him. That was in January. He went vegan I think in March, so it hasn't even been six months. He looks fit and healthy and his BMI has dropped considerably. It's the first thing I noticed. He looks about three years younger than when I last saw him. It's quite dramatic.

If you go vegan now and can manage to do even as little as 2 hours of cardio a week, I think you could get to that point by next spring.

Definitely plan on taking long walks with my dogs when I'm home for four months. Should be enough to at least start me off right.

Have you thought about getting a heart rate monitor or something like a fitbit?

even for 'brisk' walks they can definitely help you get better results and they dont cost much for a decent one

If you are a geek, plotting your runs can help motivate you. Especially when you can bring them up on google maps afterwards. Run Keeper is a good free app.

^That actually blows my mind. Drinking less than 2L of water a day. Water is my main drink.

What is with the whole fish != meat??? Fish IS meat ffs. I once met a "vegetarian" who ate fish. Idiot.

I forgot to add, rice is terrible for you. On par with white bread.
I remembered this post and questioned my 'vegetarian' friend who eats fish. She said it's called "pescetarianism", but most people don't know what that is so those people just casually say that they're vegetarian.
There are also people who add chicken to that, saying that it's a perfect "health" diet - fruits and vegetables + fish and chicken easily provide best nutrition. I've heard at least 2 guys who said that those animals don't suffer much because they're stupid, making their diet moral :p

Are you over weight?

First, I want to get a blood test done to see what I'm deficient in. Cholesterol and protein should not be an issue and that's for both good and bad cholesterol. Meaning I have plenty of both. So bringing down the bad (VLDL) should be a priority.

There is most definitely a lack of vegetables in my diet. They serve green beans and carrots as sides, and I eat all of them, but that's probably counted as one serving of one vegetable, because the side portion is so small.

I want to cut out meat completely, at least at first, because I feel it'll bring my levels down faster. If I stick to vegetables prepared properly (no butter or oil to cook them in, no ranch dressing to dip them in) for a few months, I should see a noticeable change.
You need fats in your diet though man, olive oil and butter are good for you, just dont burn them. Otherwise take some fish oil supplements, but you NEED fats, careful you dont cut fats out. If you're trying to lose weight, up the protein and fat intake and cut out carbs.

I just hope my labs don't tell me something else. Cancer is on my mind because of some recent events. If it ain't lung (probably not at this point) then it's going to GIT-related. If there's no neoplasia in my GIT, then there's parasites. Something isn't right. I'm cutting out the sugars as well since diabetes is bound to come knocking soon.

My dad drew blood after fasting, at about 2PM one day (a real dick move, but...it's my dad...) and I believe the tests came back fine with my glucose level. But the sugary drinks I drink (which I've really tried cutting back on, especially coke and juice which are never in my house) on occasion still aren't good. For someone that's much healthier than I am, sure, a few a week is fine. But a few a week for someone like me is probably hurting more than helping.

We'll see when I get home. Before I go on this "lifestyle change" rampage, I should probably get a full check up. Can't remember the last time I got one of those.

Anyone know a home-made concoction that could clear out a GIT? There's the stuff they use before colonoscopies, but I'm not doing that, clearly. But something along those lines. Probably not as violent as those, but something to take over the course of the week that will clear out a system?
Just remember, doctors arent all they're cracked up to be man.

If you're trying to lose weight, look into the keto diet. Seriously.

The last thing you want to do is become "skinny fat," which is where you're skinny, but still fat because you have no muscle, so you just look, perform and feel like shit. You need to preserve your muscle mass for healthy living, if you're over weight you probably have decent muscle under there to support that fat. So you just need to strip the fat off and you'll be good.

If you're not over weight I apologise, read between the lines wrong.

I will say this though man, going vegan will not make you lose weight. When it comes to weight, it's not so much what you eat, but how many calories you consume and the macro make up of those calories. If you are serious about losing weight and becoming fit and healthy, and you're dedicated, I can help you, it really isnt hard. It comes down to excersise and a healthy diet, which yes, contains meat.

If on the other hand you dont want to hurt animals, sure, go vegan for that reason.

One thing I gotta get on is fish oils. Pretty sure my arteries are fucked; this has been shown to help out narrowing blood vessels.

Not very vegan, but shit, we're going for health here, overall.
Check out krill oil, it's stronger than fish oil, means you dont have to take as much.

Im currently taking 8 big ass fish oil tablets a day so will swap to krill as soon as this container is done.

Brand and price doesnt matter it's all the same.

Get a good multi vitamin as well, and if you dont get enough sun take about 2000mg of Vitamin D daily as well in addition to your multi. Make sure the multi is a men's multivitamin.

Well, one's obese, so being a "health freak" is more of a compliment at this point. :(
Im dead serious man. Give me your weight, your body fat percentage, and your height and age (PM if you want) and I will tell you exactly how much to eat, what to eat, for a balanced diet, we can do gradual weight loss eating everything, or if you want, we can go keto and cut out your carbs. Ill even add you to myfitnesspal.com so we can see what each other eat to keep each other motivated.

Keep in mind Im bulking so am fat as fuck right now ;) By fat, I mean 14% bodyfat. I feel like shit. Cant wait to cut in a couple months.

But like I said, if it's about the animals, by all means, go vegan. BUT REMEMBER, being vegan wont do shit weight wise if you keep eating over your maintenance calories and keep eating all that sugar!

Funnily enough, only the unfit ones....
I have a perfect BMI and barely any body fat. I don't pump iron because I'm not interested in looking like a fucking bodybuilder. I have a dancer's body and I can dance a full stage routine for 2 hours, night after night after night, like MJ in his prime. If that makes me unfit? Sure, I guess I'm unfit. *rolls eyes*

As for vegan not making you lose weight.... my friend (who is a chef) went from borderline obese to a perfect BMI within 6 months. He went vegan, made all his own meals and hit the gym for no more than a few hours each week.

Also, I'm pretty sure Chronic and Jokerman are both vegan, so if you have some evidence that they are unfit, I'd like to see it. Because you sho' nuff ain't talking about me.

Well, maybe "vegan" is a bit extreme in my case. What Pittsey does seems to be something to strive for at first. Maybe one day without meat. I could do multiple, but maybe not completely.

I definitely needs the veggies in my diet, and I figured cutting out meat completely was the fastest way to do it. But not the easiest, obviously.

Casey, sorry to break it to you, you're not Michael Jackson.

You're skinny, you may have good cardio, maybe, but you're no fitness specimen. Your body looks like that Simpsons episode where Mr. Burns has a physical and ends up turning into an alien.

There's a saying I love, "abs on a skinny guy are like big boobs on a fat chick, they don't count." You don't even have abs. That's what I mean by skinny fat. You're out of shape.

Michael Jackson had staff that did everything for him. You don't. I bet you struggle carrying a sack of potatoes from the grocery store to your car.

PS. No one wants to look like a pro bodybuilder.
