11/12 Premier League thread

Spuds brought in some solid players but lost their best midfielder and Van der Vaart who can be useful to the squad. From having a strong midfield, I think they've gone backwards in that area. Not sure why they bought Lloris either. They already had 3 decent goalies. They must like goalies very much - at least ship one out before signing Lloris. Good buy though, for the money.

QPR to stay up or go down? January will be crucial for them... and Harry will probably bring in a few players from Spurs - maybe even Joe Cole.

Villa's transfer policy will be 'sell to buy' - which means getting rid of Darren Bent to make way for new signings. I'm undecided on what I would like. After all, Bent almost single handedly saved us from relegation when Houllier signed him in January. He was on fire and kept scoring. But, he doesn't get involved much in the game, has the least touches and it feels like we field a team of 10 players (9 outfield). The danger is that Villa may become too dependent on Christian Benteke, and what happens when he's injured? So maybe we could do with keeping him? Paul Lambert knows what he is doing and he has the final say in the team selection. He needs time...

West Brom have been on excellent form lately, but they've lost two in a row now.. could this be a downhill struggle for them, or can they get back to winning ways?

Arsenal have been poor, but Wenger should stay in my opinion.

Chelsea have made yet another silly decision in letting RDM go.

A 4-1 away win at Norwich (through to the semis) and 3-1 away at Liverpool. Hopefully, this'll be the turning point of Villa's season. Away at Chelsea next, and then Tottenham at Home, before we finish the year off with Wigan at Home.

Unbeaten in 6 now. I hope we can stretch that as long as we can.

I'm happy for you and Villa but it's a shame Liverpool is doing better.
Only because we were doing so poor. A player of Suarez's calibre is doing all of their work. Had Suarez not scored any goals this season then Liverpool would be in the relegation zone. Don't forget that Villa have the second or third youngest team in the Premier League this season. Everton have the oldest.

12 goals in two games. I predicted AV will go down at the start of the season. You're just a team filled with young potential and a few championship players minus Guzan and Benteke. That Austrian? forward could become decent though. Some of the youngsters will just fall apart if they're getting smashed all the time. Time for Randy/Lambert to get some experience in the squad tbh

You might win the league cup though :)

The next game is against Wigan and that'll be crucial going into the new year. It was never going to be easy for Paul Lambert working with the mess that was left behind from the previous manager and working with limited resources. We have the youngest team in the premier league now, and definitely need some experienced players, whether they come on a loan or through permanent deals.

Andreas Weimann definitely has potential and a good attitude both on and off the pitch. Lerner needs to spend money if we are to stay up. Wigan will be taking full advantage of our poor form and Swansea will look to do the same. Then Bradford (as the first leg of the League Cup semi-final is at Valley Parade). Villa have shown some promising signs this season of turning things around but I believe there is a lot of work to be done in midfield and defence - that was evident in the Chelsea and Spurs games. Benteke needs to practice the offside trap more and that'll come with experience. Maybe he could work with Darren Bent and Agbonlahor on that. Also evident.

Gabby is pretty shit, as much of a twat Merson is he summed it up well "If Gabby had average pace he wouldn't be a footballer" maybe not that far but without his pace he would be just a championship type footballer.

Aston Villa have invested in a lot of lower league players with potential, they should have signed a couple of cheap veterans. I know more about the Reading players than i do about the Villa players.

Yeah. They don't need a lot of players. Just a few decent experienced players. Ireland has looked good under PL, and Nzogbia needs to get fit and consistent. They do have a few injuries as well.
