A little information on an Anthropology class I'm taking involving Tupac & Bob Marley

The course compares the ways music operates politically in several cultures around the world. During the quarter we are going to concentrate on the musical cultures of Brazilians, Jamaicans, North African immigrants in France, Cambodians, and Hawaiians. We also go indepth with an a writing assignment focusing on the life and music of Tupac Shakur.

We have to read:

Catch a Fire: The Life of Bob Marley, by Timothy White

Rebel for the Hell of It: the Life of Tupac Shakur, by Armond White

I've already read Rebel, so I only have to read the Marley book.

We also have two videos on the life of 2pac, focusing on his political motivations (ie: Black Panther Party in early years, poverty, comparing cultures, etc...)

The videos are in streaming media format, and I can watch them on my computer at any time. I wanted to try and save the video from the streaming source. If I can figure out how to do so, I'll be sure to post the video for you guys as long as its not one of the retail DVD documentaries.

I'll keep this updated on any interesting information that I get from the class.

Good luck to you! I done something similar recently, it was for my English Language course. A detailed analysis of Biggies interview with Sway, the one where they talk about Pac. I think it was Biggies last interview.

Sounds like an interesting course...where are you taking this course/ where is it offered?
Oregon State University. It's called Anthropology 210. It just sounded like a fun class so I figured I would take it. I'm a few terms away from my Pharm.D (doctor of pharmacy) degree, and I had some space for a few fun classes, this being one of them.

Yeah this is a growing trend and I think that Tupac's art will have a big impact on schools for a long time to come...

This may be a little off-topic but I happened to come across it. It is a thread from a Bob Marley forum where they compare Bob Marley and Tupac and discuss if Tupac deserves to be mentioned in the same breath. There were a lot of Marley fans giving Tupac heat for living a more thuggish life than Marley, even though they do acknowledge the similarities between the two. So what do y'all think about this? I mean, I think that on a Tupac board people might see things a little bit more from Tupac's perspective.
