but i honestly don't care if amaru releases more pac material or not.
here are my reasons:
1) pac's best work has already been released probably, with the exception of a few good cuts here and there. as much as i have enjoyed r u still down, still i rise, and better dayz, i really don't find myself going back and listening to those albums when i want to hear pac. it's always matw, tlv1, aeom, dk7, s4mn, or 2pacalyspe. those albums contain pac's best work, for the most part, period. songs are cut from albums for a reason, and while it's not always because they are worse songs, it usually is.
2) in not-hardcore pac fans' eyes, pac is almost this figurehead that won't die, but not in a good way. it's almost a joke to people, like "pac has another album out? haha who produced it, elvis?
" to me, that is just shitting on his legacy. quantity does not always trump quality, especially in music. people want every bit of material released (it won't, because some people have personal treasures that they choose not to share, i.e. ice cube), but if that means a cd of songs like 4 My Niggaz, My Own Style, and random freestyles, count me out.
3) in my opinion, interest in pac's life and music (posthumously) reached a peak of sorts when resurrection came out. since then, releases like 2Pac Live, House of Blues, and the Rose Volume 2 have a very small market of potential buyers. And obviously Lttg was handled improperly on so many levels, such as production, guest appearances, promotion, marketing, etc. that hardcore fans have begun to feel jaded towards amaru records.
4) it's tough to make a rapper, spitting over beats that were hot over ten years ago, sound good when remixed over beats today. that's why a lot of people say leave them alone and just release the originals, but realistically an album of og's probably would not reach the mainstream interest. face it, the number of die-hard 2Pac fans is extremely small relative to the audience that a mainstream rapper such as 50 Cent reaches.
5) i'll always listen to pac for my whole life, but it's time to move on. i want to pop in a cd and project myself back to 95-96 when he was hot and ruled the world. i don't want to, 20 years from now, pop in a cd and reminice back to 2008 when 2Pac was just another joke on dave chapelle's stand up routine.
Obviously, not everyone is going to agree with me nor should they. I'm interested to hear what people think, especially those who became fans after his death.
