Cultural Differences between USA and England

Problems with Australia:

People are lazy. Sorry sorry, I mean, "laid back." It takes forever to get something done. Things are way over priced. Cars cost double what they would over seas. The same goes for smokes, alcohol and anything you'd deem "entertaining."

Most Aussies dont leave the country to know this and when they find out they're like "Oh well, it could be worse."

"It could be worse" is said about anything and nothing is improved, things just kind of coast along. Yeah they are good and better than in other places but they could be a lot better.

Australian's have a major "tall poppy syndrome" which means they hate to see other Australian's succeed and as soon as they do they're hated on.

There's a lot of other cultures coming here now and refusing to adapt to Australian culture, often illegally. They live in their own enclaves and refuse to even learn english. The government pays them $457 a week welfare, plus $457 for their spouses, plus $145 additional "hardship allowance", in comparison elderly people get about $250 a week.

Our government is stupid, although that is one thing that has sort of improved with this government in power now. It's not that they do anything great, it's just that they dont fuck up as much as the other one.

^I thought they give money to immigrants because it's the only way to get people to live there lol.

Don't people get welfare just for coming there to work on farms or some shit? lol It's just from what I've heard around these immigrant circles haha.

Kazahkstan started off in the AFC, and only switched to UEFA in the early 2000s. I think they were allowed only because they used to be part of the USSR ...

Back to the thread subject though...

Come to Canada, specifically Montreal, it may be cold in the winter, but we party all the time, and we're like a slice of Europe in North America. (The old port is the best example of that) ... Just learn basic French though, it will help lol

As for the United states, I know more people that complain than have good things to say... Shit, a Bosnian friend of mine is planning on moving here to Montreal from NY cause getting a job is practically impossible and she's a University grad, everyone is being layed off, etc ... Things are apparently a lot worse in the USA than what is being showed.

I wouldn't move to England though, always rains and shit. I'd put a bullet in my head ... only good thing is the football. lol

That happens a lot in the states too. People come here illegally, refuse to learn the language or culture and then bitch about not having equal rights... sigh.

And the welfare laws vary from state to state.. its awful in IL though. You can't get money or medical care if you are illegal. However for citizens when you do get welfare, you can get cheap housing, food stamps, free cash, free medical care, etc... and there is no follow up, no rules, no regulations. You can live care free in a nice neighborhood with no job, education or ambition.

You can pretty much live on welfare your entire life. It really sucks.

ok, i was just doing some literature research on life satisfaction and i came across this when i typed a term into google:

Satisfaction with Life Index - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

ranked here are the countries in which are satisfied the most to the least (in descending order).

it made me think of this thread and think no wonder the uk is rated so low for an industrialised nation because of the government, the laws, other people and the weather here and so on etc...

crime rates in switzerland are very low, pollution in scandinavia is very low (especially sweden. they love their country and dont litter) - all these contribute. now its no surprise that african nations are towards the bottom (because of poverty), but some are much higher than others because they also have beautiful sites etc and we dont really think of that when we think of africa. the media predominantly displays it as a "poverty stricken" land, and never glorifies the beautiful nature of the land.

masta, my polish friend says people are much happier in poland and he cant wait to go back after he works and completes his education here.

he gives the example that people burn things and have barbeques in the street over there as the government regulations arent so strict and people are much happier unlike here where we have councils that make the city worse and government which is corrupt and self-fulfilling anyway.

here people complain way too much.

i just realised how long the penultimate sentence before this is way too long without anyway punctuation to show pauses.

I have no idea from which city he comes from but it sounds like a national pride to me. Let's start with the fact that I know just one guy doing barbecues - like twice a year or so. It's just not popular here. Most people live in relatively small apartments, at least in bigger cities and they aren't having much fun.

Maybe he really comes from a nice place, a small town but then people from there complain even more and drink instead of burning things lol.
Overall people in here complain really a lot. I know that people in the US or in the UK generally have much easier with their lives and it's not entirely fair that a person with great education can work his whole life just so he can pay the rent for his small flat, have something to eat and buy really basic things but then older people complain even too much. They seem tired of their lives.

There are also some issues with people living here but I'd say most of them are really nice. After all there are assholes everywhere.
Also Polish cities and some smaller towns might look sort of greyish and seem depressing but there are also beautiful places to spend holidays.

Yeah, actually I'm focused on my surroundings which might not be too casual but come to think of it life here might really be sort of depressing for other people.
I can honestly say that I can see why people here bitch a lot and I can also picture myself being happier elsewhere but it's not that simple.
I should really be happy about the possibilities I have that most others don't have here.

he told me that people did whatever they liked (to an extent) for enjoyment and they were never really told what to do or told to stop. they just enjoyed their young lives. but here they are restricted.

im sure wherever ewa sonnet is the place is not so grey. :p

Dominican Republic is right behind the UK? Interesting.

I'm very surprised that the US is that high on the list. I'm wondering who was polled and how.

lol.

I'm not sure about that restriction thing. How are they restricted in the UK?
police want to crack down on everything. i suppose its good in the end, but statistics have shown (although they might have improved) that police only solve 18% of crimes.

let's take birmingham city council for instance... it is several millions of pounds in debt and they are trying to cut corners into improving the city. a reason why it hasnt developed so quick and why plans for development always take setbacks. a reason why other cities are catching up and manchester for example want to become the second city.

the council are denying many people who need support, the support they need. instead they just worry about quantity over quality of service/performance etc... kinda hard to explain. but take housing for example, they leave repairs half done so they can just move onto the next customer (knowing well that the job they last did will need repairing again - it brings them more money because its another repair that they are relied on to complete by tenants, so it increases business).

You can move to Croatia where you can kill someone driving drunk, then just get your license revoked and you're sent home to your parents. lol. True story.
