sounds like these guys richard dawkins and sam harris are struggling to come up with a supreme ideology, while at the same time demeaning other ideologies. its the whole religion vs science debate again, dick hawkins sounds like another dan brown with another theory of picking apart religion and science. i believe the Plato statement that good and evil will never cease until philosophers become kings. holding onto religion, science, and atheism as a foundation for belief, to me, sounds like grasping at straws. sounds like he's arguing darwins theorys instead of using them and making his own instead. shouldnt this thread be in WOW ... carmi? i watched the videos, i found the first one more interesting. an soulja boys dress sense reflects his dance style, poo

I thought the Harris video was very interesting. He raises good points about the criticicism on religion.

^yeah i like the part where he uses the analogy of a diamond buried in his backyard the size of a refrigerator. he's like, people will give you reasons for belief in god, but they aren't good reasons. Then says, using the diamond analogy, this belief in a diamond the size of a refrigerator buried in my backyard gives my life meaning. Or I wouldn't want to live in a universe where there wasn't a diamond the size of a refrigerator buried in my backyard.

Yes, rationally there is no difference between the arguments, but one will be respected whereas the other will get you branded a lunatic.

In discussions I sometimes use the same analogy he used with Poseidon. If people believe in a Christian God, I have the exact same amount of *rational* credibility if I say I believe in the pantheon of the Greek gods. Yet, such a belief will again be scoffed at.

And he raises a good point that we should stop being so careful around religious points just out of political correctness. Face the music, be open about this type of stuff. Just say out loud "THAT, is fucking ridiculous".

Also speaking of ridiculousness, as he points out, it's quite disturbing to find out 40% of the Electorate hold such unfounded yet respected beliefs. These are the people that might some day run the whole show, but they believe there's a fridge sized diamond in their backyard.

I'm not an atheist. I believe there is a small village of heat resistant leprechauns at the core of the earth and they are all omnipotent Gods that govern our daily lives.
