I'm wondering if I should move this to Words of Wisdom since it touches on the recent threads in that forum, but I'll keep it here for now.

yup I was laughing my ass off at facebook banned in Pakistan because of this.

It's not that funny since someone was charged with "blasphemy" even though it was unintentional and.. and got a life sentence in Pakistan lately.

I joined a group on FB for "Draw Mohammed Day".. I've been getting lots of hate mail from various Muslims. I try to explain "it's about the first amendment rights, the ability to do so... not about disrespect although I know it may seem that way." Then I suggest that they draw pictures of Jesus or Buddha or God or whatever... No success with trying to reason with the people mailing me, lol. Ah well. (Yes, the ppl sending me mail are all from the US.)

Anyways... I am drawing pics all day today.

Someone designates a day as draw Muhammad day and you feel that you must exercise your first amendment rights by drawing caricatures...because someone made a facebook group about it?

This is what irks me. I am for freedom of speech. But if I have Muslim friends who are sensitive to the issue, I'm OK by not drawing Muhammad today. This way, I still believe I am not sacrificing freedom of speech but most importantly, I'm not being the asshole.

Molly Norris' intention was not for you to draw Muhammad today.

I have Muslim friends. But I'm still OK with being the asshole. They know I hate all religions.

Cultural tolerance isn't political correctness.

You mean the cultural tolerance that is so finely displayed by death threats and mass riots?

Perhaps I feel very strongly about being able to be an asshole without people wanting to kill me and stuff my head in a bag and sink it to the bottom of the Bosporus.

Perhaps all this recalcantrism in the West is due to westerners not standing for the BS that comes our way once someone farts on a Quran.

Maybe just maybe, that's the reason so many Westerners are suddenly so adamant about being an asshole.

I couldn't word this as well as this article. This applies to you, Duke.

The Internets - acknowledged guardians of freedom of expression for people who have a fake picture, a fake name, and an IP blocker - are feeling a mite cocky these days.

From one of my closest Muslim friends' facebook status:

quoting Pakistani filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy "My so called Muslim brothers protesting on facebook about caricatures of prophet Mohammad get off it and get a life- I don't see you protesting the demons who hijack your religion and kill thousands of innocent men women and children In your name- why don't you go protest that with the same gusto? Hypocrites!"
and

.How can we expect anyone to tolerate when we ourselves as Muslims are not ready to be tolerent!

You're lumping all Muslims together though. If we lump all Westerners together then we're both pieces of greedy, post-colonial, egocentric, nationalistic, xenophobic, racist shit.

All this muslim-bashing is like a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Do death threats fall under freedom of expression?

Oh ja, en hallo!

I will happily stand by the same principles in real life. I have done so many times and will continue to do so in the future. The internet is not a place for me to hide.

But great job jumping on the assumption train, chump. From all the "fake pictures and fake names" you REALLLYYYYY totally figured me out! Boy, it's like you've known me for years.

Idiot.
