World Premiere: Swami 'Sugarless' - News at Desi Hits

Enjoy. Free mp3 download of the brand new Swami song 'Sugarless'. Give me your thoughts. I wrote the female vocals on this track as well as my own english vocals that come in near the end, so I'm really interested to know what you guys think. This is the first big release of something where I've written female pop vocals (written male pop and rnb vox a bunch of times), so I'm pretty pleased with myself at the moment :)

Damn, this song sounds tight.

This could get good music play in the clubs imo.

Also, good lyrics dude, it's unique and original. Props

This track drops hard in the club. I'm really looking forward to doing it live.

I don't really have a British accent when I talk so it doesn't come out when I rap or sing either. I like to think of my voice as transatlantic. I've had people think I'm American, Canadian, Australian, all sorts of things. I don't mind, I prefer that people can't pin me down straight away.

Not sure what effects were used on the vocals because I didn't mix it, my cousin did.

Anyway....this version of the track is for our new compilation which is sort of a greatest hits type deal with all the big songs from our last few albums, 2 new songs including this one and couple of remixes. It marks the end of an era for us because we're only doing all-English stuff from now on. In fact I've been writing verses for a full English version of this track in the last few weeks, so that'll be on the new mainstream album that comes out later this year.

Fun anecdote - the "AYYY"'s and "OHHHH"'s that sit behind the female chorus were the most fun to record. Me and my cousin were laughing our asses off doing that. To get that "massive crowd' sound, you basically have to record as many different takes as you can but using all sorts of different voices. It was just me and my cousin in the studio at that point so we spent about half an hour doing the most random and fucked up voices possible. Doing ones that sound like an old man, The Godfather, and Tony Montana. Doing ones deliberately off key, in roaring growling voices and whatever. Doing ones crouching on the floor and shouting upwards at the mic and shit. When you blend them all together, you get that sound that's kind of like the chants you hear at sports games. Those are the bits that get people singing along in the club!!!

I'm generally a hit and miss kind of person. I'm an asshole, I only see it in white and black when it comes to a track lol.

This is a hit.

This is fantastic! In terms of heads-down, wreck-the-place focus, I like everything about it. The loud base, the multiple vocal personas and languages. Soundtrack for the rest of my life.

Thanks guys. It's somewhat of an evolution in our sound, as with every subsequent release we do, but we firmly believe that if you want to gain more fans you need to run the risk of losing some, and it can be quite daunting when you initially put a new track out there because can't anticipate the response. Even more so because what we do hasn't been done before. There's no template for us to follow so every step is into the unknown.

I'm really glad you guys are feeling it. The response has all been positive so far from everyone that's heard it so we're all really pleased. A couple of radio stations in the US and Canada have already added it to their playlists, so I'm hoping with a bit of radio and club play it'll really start taking off.

I like the "Now I'm sugarless, now you're sugarless" chorus. Make a song called "Meatless" next. "Now I'm meatless, now you're dairyless."

the punjabi singing isn't my thing at all. but the track is not bad.

All in all I would give it a 6 out of 10.

if i remeber right that one song you had a video for was better.

Casey, can you go into depth a bit on how you guys did it creatively?
I actually just answered a bunch of questions about the song, how it was written, what inspired it, etc, for a bhangra site. They should be publishing the answers in a couple of days, I'll link to it here when it's up.
