It might be your sound card drivers, but XP has generic drivers and usually installs the for you. Go to your device manager and have a look at your sound card to see if it says it is working properly and the correct drivers are installed.

I went onto the sounds and audio devices manager in control panel and everything in the volume, audio and voice tabs are grey and i cant do anything with them. Also in the volume tab it says no audible device.

However in the hardware tab, it says all my drivers, devices and codecs are working properly.

Is that normal?

I think theres is a sound card in there, or something because like i said i used to be able to play audio and videos!

I dont know what on-board sound is.

that means is your sound card built into your motherboard .. .you could always just format your hard drive and reinstall fresh .. that usualy fixes everything im too lazy to try and fix

~ one more thing .. u see the little "mute" icon? .. uncheck that. ~
