Oh... And my main issue with them not including flash is on the ipad. I definately wouldn't buy a tablet without it. I also need a 10 inch screen. When someone brings out a tablet that allows me to multitask. Has a 10 inch screen, and looks as good as the ipad. i'm buying it.

Correct me if I'm wrong... But... It doesn't really mult-task does it? It pauses one app while you are using the other app, and you can swap between the paused and active app and it will switch. You can't run an app in the background and wait for it to load while doing something else. Which to me, is the whole point of multi-tasking.

Again... I'm not an Apple hater. I had the phone and liked it. But without jailbreaking it, it would have been shit. The jailbreak gives you the functionality needed.

Also - Ebook readers would come in handy for when you go on holiday.

Most people who buy iphones do so, as it is a fashion accessory to them. Not because they use all the functions. Most people I know who have iphones are far from technically savvy.
Well, that can be said for most people that buy smartphones. My senior year in high school, everyone wanted a BlackBerry. Then came the iPhone and that became hot shit. Now, the dimwit people that behave like sheep and go for the most popular thing out are after Android.

You really think everyone with a smartphone, save for the iPhone, is tech savvy? Most people still use their phone for simple shit like texting and calling, maybe listening to music and taking a picture. You can do that with a feature phone; you don't need a smart phone.

It seems like having a nice phone is like having a nice car and it's almost like a status symbol. A few years ago, having a BB meant you were a hotshot business man that needed it to check email and conduct business online. Today, a single mother of five on welfare is running around with an iPhone. I personally saw some raggety looking bitch with an EVO. That's at least $80 a month with data and all. Any old fool can get a smartphone these days, and it seems that they do.

So trend-followers are everywhere. I have a friend that's looking to get a Droid X. When I told him to wait a bit for VZW to get newer devices this Holiday season, he told me "I'm not all about the features. I just want to get the best now and not worry about it for two years. I don't do need to root or hack or whatever like you do." So it seems like he's getting it to continue texting and calling, and maybe use the occasional sports app. Again, you can do this on a feature phone, and not pay $30 for data, and maybe just $10 for 25MB or something.

The only reason Apple and the iPhone have more posers is because it came out before Android and all the hype around it was much bigger than Android. Hell, it still is. No big celebrity boasts their new Android device. They're rocking BBs and iPhone 4s.

Nah. I don't think that.

In the UK there's hardly any mention of android. So everyone thinks an iphone is THE phone.

I have decided the iphone is the new plasma for the lower classes.

Well, plasma was actually way more useful :p You could buy an old school crt display but if you wanted a bigger screen to watch a movie nicely you went for a plasma. But I agree that many people bought them just to show off.
However now people buy Iphones but they don't really need them and those who do really need a decent smartphone would do better buying something else.

People forget that non-tech-savvy people buy iPhones because their UI is designed to be simple to use. Non-tech-savvy don't go for the iPhone simply because it's a status symbol (that plays a part) but also because the learning curve is much less steep as opposed to maybe other devices. All I know is that I hear of really old people using iPhones and I stumble upon articles like "Toddler's new toy: iPhone" all the time and I never read them but the article titles say enough.

I agree.

But... My toddler is just as able to use my phone, as he did my iphone (although samsung have ripped off the iphone interface, Which is what attracted me to it.) And he is equally at home on my PC surfing Youtube for nursery rhymes.

I do think the iphone is more user friendly.

Apple Inc. will unveil Wednesday a new version of its computer operating software, a development that comes as the consumer-electronics giant makes a more aggressive move to expand in a market that has historically eluded it: corporate customers.

The Cupertino, Calif.-based company will hold an event dubbed "Back to the Mac," a reference to its line of laptop and desktop computers. The event, which comes just two days after Apple's planned fourth-quarter earnings release, will feature new bells and whistles in the software that powers Macs and possibly new computer models.

The event comes amid Apple's rapid transformation. Once known for computers popular with students and graphic designers, the company morphed into a mobile-device giant as its iPod, iPhone and iPad products took off with consumers. Now, those devices are proving popular with business executives, driving Apple to aggressively move into the corporate market.

As executives started buying the iPhone, they asked their companies to support the device alongside Research in Motion Ltd.'s BlackBerry. Gradual acceptance of the iPhone paved the way for many companies to support the iPad, a tablet computer that was released in April.

Earlier this year, Apple said half of Fortune 100 companies currently support or are testing iPads, which are popping up in boardrooms across the country. Even more companies are letting their employees use iPhones, which now can talk with Microsoft Corp.'s business email tools.

Monday's earnings will likely provide evidence that Apple is making headway in the corporate market. Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters expect Apple to post a whopping 47% jump in earnings per share to $4.08 on revenue of $18.9 billion, though the company often surprises with stronger-than-forecast results.

Getting Macs into offices is Apple's next challenge. The company's desktop and laptop computers are priced similarly to high-end PCs, but many companies are reluctant to make the switch because Apple doesn't offer cheaper products that cost-conscious businesses are looking for.

Also, the Mac operating system has historically lagged behind the needs of corporate customers, even though the company quickly added business-friendly technologies to its mobile devices.

Apple is using its chain of nearly 300 sleek retail stores to appeal to corporate customers, creating sales teams dedicated to small and medium businesses. It's also expanded sales staff and created specialized positions to offer more support for business customers. Since these programs began, some stores have seen revenue more than double, according to an Apple employee familiar with the strategy.

The company has also started using partners to reach the corporate market. Last week, AT&T Inc. said it would begin selling the iPad directly to businesses, along with discounted service plans.

Apple's operating-system update may well be the next prong in the strategy. Apple has already signaled it wants the software that powers its machines to be more popular with companies and rolled in new features, like support for corporate email, calendars and encrypted communication in its previous update.
Yep. Masta and the other haters will find it harder and harder to hate Apple. :p

You missed the point. It's not that the company is doing well. It's that the iPhone and the iPad are increasingly being used for business purposes, which counters one of your posts (unless I'm mistaken). I can't be fucked to dig it up.

I think it is a good thing. Businesses should embrace the smart phone. Where I work the only option is a blackberry. Which is pretty shit. I have told them ways they could really improve the way we do things with a smart phone. I'd be happy with the iphone. But all they see is that staff get a shiny cool phone.

An iphone for business is more than adequate in my sector. Just personally, I need more functionality than they allow.

I can't understand how so many people buy an ipad. I browse BBC News, and Sky Sports News every morning. I like to watch the embedded video. On an Ipad, I couldn't.

^You live in the UK, no one gives a fuck about the UK. Here, most mainstream media sites (WSJ, CNN, NPR, NYT, New Yorker, Huffington Post, ESPN, CBS) have their own apps for the iPad where you can watch almost all video content. If you can't watch BBC News and Sky Sports, you can blame lack of Flash, sure. But you can also blame BBC News and Sky Sports for falling behind their international competitors by not developing apps for the iPad. By the way, there is a BBC app, just not video, and yeah I know video is what you want. Also, there is an FT app for the iPad with video, which is what you should be reading anyway. I prefer it to the Journal but can't get past the pink paper.

So, YOUR reason for not getting an iPad does not transfer to ME because I CAN browse all the news channels and sports channels' videos I desire while you can't because of your location. So, yeah, you can blame lack of Flash...but not really.

No wonder Masta doesn't see a big use for the iPad. He lives in Poland. I bet my cousin in Bosnia wouldn't either. :D

Because America is in Jobs pocket... ?

We don't all cum over imacs here either. You may say no-one gives a fuck about the UK. But we might say we are better than you. The BBC is the best broadcasting medium in the world, and far more impartial than all your media outlets.

I am now officially outing you as an apple fanboy. I have owned both phones by the way. You have owned neither. Nor an Ipad. So what is your point again?

This also shows apples attitude. Another thing which bothers me. They "force" everyone to create new apps, rather than use the technology everyone else is working with. All they are interested in is world dominance. Not into making the owners experience the best they could possibly have.

I apologize for my brash humor, it flew over your head. Also, I do like BBC very much and I frequent it quite a bit. My favorite publication is the Economist so I have no problem with British media. :D

It's quite insulting that you would think I'd care what you "out" me as. You said both phones. The iPhone and...? My point is quite clear. I can't help if it flows over your head time and time again. :D

lol. Looks like the humour flew over someone's head. Maybe not mine. Maybe too subtle for you Americans?

I don't use terms such as apple fanboy in all seriousness. I also don't consider it to be insulting.

Your point is .... You like to argue? And you can't accept that I don't want a phone without flash, but that you wouldn't mind.... So... I am wrong....

If you really find it "quite insulting". Please check your pants. Someone has stolen your penis.

Edit - Also. Economist is my worst publication after Hello magazine. It's basically just plagiarism. We have the internet for that.

Agh, there's a sane Pittsey post. I feared your illness took over after that last post. :p

Apple believes that the best user experience is provided when they have full control over content, a closed ecosystem. Steve Jobs covers this in the 5 minute rant so I don't really want to say it again. Refer to the video, please.

Do I need an app for the video... I am on the ipad, again.

Just because he says it doesn't mean I believe him.

I have a theory that Jobs died a few years ago. They replaced him with a genetic blend of Steve Jobs and Lex Luther, that they recreated in the lab. However.... Being Apple they removed his ability to read English and he can now only read in Chinese. If you want him to read anything you have to write it in Chinese. Or use the app they have created to do that for you.

Pittsey, you're so masculine. It's too early in London, I really didn't want to get your blood pressure up. :p

But no, I do like to argue but that's not fully the case here. It's also that it's a pet peeve of mine when people can't justify their actions and beliefs to an acceptable standard (that I have created in my head, if you care to know).

Who do they plagiarize? I feel this is another Pittsey post that can't be substantiated.

I don't really know if they plagiarise. (we spell different, but I am English, so my spelling is right).

I don't like it as it is just 1000's (it feels like it) of little articles. That seem to have been taken from various newspaper publications worldwide. Some of it is interesting. But mostly.... Not to me.
