I don't really take white on black racism seriously. In Norway, it's not about racism. I don't dislike some colored people because of the color of their skin. I just know that they come from places where practices are different. Imagine a situation where shit hits the fan. I don't know what they are capable of. Maybe they'll stab me or maybe they'll walk away. There's uncertainty which in turn makes me uncertain about what to expect. I don't judge their culture, I just don't want to be a victim of something I didn't see coming. Fear of the unknown. Sue me.
But when it comes to America, it's my personal opinion that black people should have gotten over slavery a long time ago. I don't live in that culture or that environment though. I hear about police brutality and racism, but I can't observe it. To me, it's a thought concept, nothing more. I understand the intricacies of the American culture, and I realize that the reason why racism is such a big issue has to do with the evolution of history. Still, I don't take it all that serious because it's not part of my reality.
Similarly, I'd expect that dilla's comment came from a similar place. He wasn't there during the holocaust, he doesn't live in the country. Maybe some patriotic Germans feel shame. Maybe Germans don't like talking about it. Who knows. To dilla it probably means jack shit though. I'm not saying that makes it okay to throw out racial slur. I remember I was looking in the funny jokes thread, my roomie saw me and told me to post up the following joke that he made up on the spot: "What happened when the ****** took a shit? His mom came and ate it." It's just stupid, random, and if a black person takes offense to it I personally feel like they need to get over themselves. Da Funk's joke was meant much in the same manner. I guess if Ceasar got complaints from black visitors it puts him in a difficult position in this day and age, of racial and sexual equality. But I, personally, don't think his joke should pose a problem to anyone. I don't go haywire when I see fat jokes being thrown around, but I'm not gonna sit here and say that I'm a 100% comfortable with being overweight. It's not the be-all of my problems, but either way, I don't let it get to me.
And like I said, imo, dilla's joke wasn't that harsh. If Sebastian was a jew I would have a completely different opinion, but he's not. But I'm a very free spirited person. Any thought is worth entertaining to me, no matter how far-out, offensive or silly it is.
