that's a relief to know that i won't have to replace the whole keyboard, thanks carmi

after further investigation i found a site that sells them for a little as £1.50 each

problem fixed now, for the time being have swapped the L key for another less-used key, spare parts have been ordered from usa through ebay for just $6, phew!

hardest problem is finding the exact keys for the required model laptop because they all have different style clips and switches

what brand and model is the laptop?

mine is the acer aspire 5920, 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD. when i went to see it i compared the same laptop in currys and comet and currys were selling the exact same laptop but with 3GB RAM instead of 2GB and 2 letters missing off the keyboard for about £20 less.

quite tempting though it was an ex-display model. but i decided 2GB is sufficient, i dont want problems or broken keys, new battery etc.. and brand new out of the box. so i just decided to go with the 2GB model with no keyboard fault at comet.

whoever may have gone and purchased the refurbished one from currys may be rgretting their decision now because there may have been other hidden faults in the machine which may have arisen since customers messing around with it for so many weeks/months. maybe even worn out components or screen blowout due to the amount of time they leave it running constantly.
