Do you guys tip for food or any other service like a hair cut?

I'm not stingy, but I don't really tip.

When my mom takes us out to restaurants, I always leave my sweater on the chair and pretend to go back to get it and grab what she left. :lol:

I think tipping is a dumb idea, they are doing their jobs. There has been only a few people I tipped and it was b/c they went over the top, if not, they are just doing their jobs.

They are providing a service to you and that is how they make money (tips). Tipping waiters is not optional. I hope you get known for not tipping and the piss in your drink :/ No...but seriously...that is mean.

^Every job I do, I always go over the top, and seeing them not care makes me not care. So, I guess it could be mean, but I see it as not. It's not like I make a lot more $ than the waitress anyway, if anything I make less. :/

Theres no tipping in Australia unless you really want to. I think if the waitress/waiter gets paid less and tipping is what makes their pay worthwhile I would tip. But I think the whole idea of it is stupid.

For me, it's a cultural thing. I understand in the US and Canada, tipping is normal and expected.

In Europe, obviously, we have our shit more together. Serving staff get paid more and are thusfar not dependant on some unspoken moral obligation. A tip here is earned by extra courteous or "over the top" service. If you ask for something peculiar and they say "no problem", that earns them a tip, if you feel like it.

But yes, on occasions where serving staff go "beyond the call of duty" or in places where I'm regular, I sometimes leave a tip.

For the rest, I agree with Shadows. A tip is for the extraordinary. They're doing their job. If they're underpaid, then that's a shame and they ought to do something about it, instead of expecting on the (already paying) customer's good will.

Yah, the douche bag was rude to her b/c she wanted something cooked a specific way and he gave attitude. She sees it as tipping is a good gesture no matter what, but why leave a tip for a douche?

Instead, I saved the $5 and bought my nieces candy with it.

I think you should watch Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs. The first 10 mins out of 15 of the movie is about how Steve Bucemi doesn't believe in tipping, and the other 5mins is about how Madonna's Like a Virgin, is about getting fucked by a big wang.

Do you guys go to stores and look for stuff forever and still buy the item AND you are happy with it?

I doubt it. They say, if the customer isn't offered service within the first 30 secs, the customer is less likely to buy.

Same goes for me, If the waiter is joking with their worker or goes out for a smoke before asking me if I need anything or ignores my side of the table, fuck them.

In V-Day, I gave the dude a $14. (I would have given more, but I already had blew $230 that night not including the meal yet).

It's all about the service, I just don't see how some of you guys think someone is cheap for not tipping for bad service?

Im not calling you a cheap ass for not tipping bad service, shit like i said my tipping habits reflect the service that i get from the waiter. Im calling you a cheap ass for saying "they are doing their job." I've known/know alot of people that work as waiters and tips is pretty much wat they live off of.

i believe in tippin.. i hate going out with my mom who consatantly complains and then only wants to leace some change.. my brother is notorious for that also i think thats why he uses his debit car so he can say "i dont have cash on me"

when im out to eat i do tip my waitress, cause it goes into the fact that they dont make shit on wages. at least with a couple of dollars can make a difference.

and yea i look at the service. if my waitress is being a bitch and coppin a attitude i aint giving her shit. then she can get the picture and realize, change her attitude. if my girl is on top of everything and has a great personality i go ahead and leave a few extra dollars more than what she gets. if im eating and i see and overhear my waitress getting her ass chewed out by a couple of 80 yr olds nit picking about having too many mushrooms on their steak and threaten her by telling the manager. i leave her more money.

pizza guy comes to my house i try to leave them a few extra dollars just to help them on gas costs. back in the day when i use to go to my barber i would give him a few extra bucks. just because i would like hearing stories on how things were back in the old days.

you shouldnt be stingy shadows. there working hard to make it and they try to their best if they got famlies to support. you aint gotta play big shot. just leave em a few extra bucks. a little bit makes a difference, there nice to you help them back out.

It's not really a big thing here in the UK, but yeah when I'm in the US I'll tip for sure, unless the service was extraordinarily shit.

In some situations people should definately leave big tips though. I remember a number of years ago I was working as a waiter at a Thai restaurant. One night there was this group of about 20 people. They were already drunk when they got to the place and proceeded to drink a hell of a lot more over the 2 hours they were there. It was only a small restuarant it was rare that we got a group this big. There was only me and one other waiter serving their table, and we did a great job all things considered. Yet, even though there was fucking 20 of them they only left something like a £5 tip. Cheap fuckers. That shit pissed me off.
