To be Respected or to be Feared: Which is more effective ?

the problem with fear is that you are only one person, u lot dont have armies behind you - in our everyday situation people have little power - so what can u do with your fear? maybe if your a dictator fear is good, but if your in a democacy and your people fear u you aint gonna win! for those who consider themselves from the school of Machiavelli good luck with that - how the mighty have fallen, we dont live in the times of absoulout monarchs anymore or absoulout power - i dont see how he and his works are that relevent to society and its structure anymore? try and impose that kind of rule and you will not rule - there is no divine power anymore!

Depends on what effect it will have on the people around you. There is no right answer to this question, it all depends on the surroundings.

Coming from a Welshman, this is a surprise.
Many believe the Welsh to be the divne race, and it is understandable how people come to this conclusion - but I am not from the school of thought...i have no explination why we Welsh are so much better than the rest of the world :D

I'd rather have my foes fear themselves so that way they will respect me. In that sense I am the King of Ultimate Terror. I make foes fear how they are gonna end up themselves in a confined paradox and hypocrisy of damnation.

Wrong.

Take Gandhi for instance.

He had millions of people who respected him & yet, I don't think many feared him.
Ofcourse people feared him, not in a violent way but they feared he's protest for the fact it could be aprotest againt them. Peace

I had anticipated this answer.

Some of the British respected him, but just as much & probably moreso, they feared him.

Indians/Pakistanis though respected him without fearing him. This goes for people worldwide although, as with the British, there will always be exceptions.

fear never last for long, respect does, even the most feared dictators have opposers, u can never scare people forever, eventually someone will rise up, eg take rascism, the kkk had black people scared in the south, not only were they a group of assholes wearing there bedsheets but they were also the police, the mayor, the landlords, etc, it took basically one man(mlk)to say no,and rearrange the whole shit, u can scare people into little dark corners but there is always someone that will say no and stand up for himself, the person that stands up for themselves get respect from the people in fear, i remember pac saying something like "if u oppress a group of people, it will eventually blow up in your face", this is exactly why fear doesnt work, not everyone will hide in there corners and stay scared, that little kid whos father got killed by the klan grew up to be malcom x.

if u treat people right, they will love u, if u back them into a corner they will hate u, its thats simple.

Calcuo, The Don is not impressed by your faggotism, u will pay.
