To those not in the US...

This is true, but moreso, even when you do speak French in France, they expect you to be fluent. They often react impolite when you don't understand them and the majority will make no effort to make themselves more understandable. They will blabber out that French sentence in exactly 0.3 seconds, even if you politely ask them to speak a bit slower.

France is a beautiful country. It's just a shame so many French people live there.
lol..

^ For some reason I think the Irish weather is a lot better than the English weather.

Truth, does that statement have some?

Nope. The best weather is in the south of England.

Ireland has poor weather, potatoes and unemployment. They also have a civil war.

They claim Ireland is beautiful countryside. True. But only because there is no money to build any roads.

They also have the English making things up, which never helps.

The French people however... Nah they arn't that bad but they really don't give you any help if you don't speak the language
Many of them just don't speak english. Incredible but true. Even the young people speak horrible english most of the time.

And Smacky. No one said the US is bad place to live or be at. Of course many want in. But if we discuss if the USA are the best country to be at, there is plenty to discuss. Then again, it's the same thing with every country, I dunno where the best place is, I critizes all of them for different reasons.

I never said anyone said that. I was just stating the intention of me making this thread.

Yeah, this is true. I don't expect the French to learn English because they might need to speak to a tourist one day. But it's more the reaction you get from not being able to communicate in French. I went on a 29 day 7 country (maybe more can't think right now lol) tour, I couldn't learn every language. I feel I'm pretty polite to people I come across in Australia who don't speak English, I'll slow down, simplify just be helpful. It's what Duke said, the French don't help at all. That being said I loved Paris/Nice and had a great time anyway.

Yeah it depends on what you are looking for. I guess that the US has a point for variety - you can probably find many totally different places in the US itself - you can live in NJ, Cali or Hawaii and each will probably feel totally different. Also people coming to the US are totally different - there's a variety you probably won't find anywhere else. However there are some "American traits" that I assume are present everywhere in the US. Some of them are really bad and to some people it'll stop them from wanting to be there.
If it comes to living conditions per se then America doesn't stand out anymore which means that it's not the best place to live judging by that factor alone. And if it comes to other factors then each to their own. There are pros and cons to every place. I know that in the future I wouldn't want to live in a big city anymore so things like "night life of NY" or "everything happens here" are a turn off to me, while they will be attractive to someone who want it or comes from a smaller town.
Then small towns usually mean stupid people and rednecks so it's something I'd have to struggle with.

Really though, fuck the French. I remember being in Paris and asking a cop for directions. Bastard just looked at me like I was from Mars and then rattled off in French. When I asked him to repeat it a bit slower he just walked off. Cunt.

Canada>America.

Everytime I go to the states, obviously good times, but I find Americans tend to be on the ignorant and racist side. I've never seen a country so torn apart by "values" and "race", not to mention, no universal health care...and I like to smoke my joints on the street without the cops harassing me. I don't think the states have anything to offer except tourist destinations.

Nah. I understand how you'd feel that way. But it's such a big country that yeah, racism is here, and arrogance, and ignorance in spades, but I think it's a great place to live. It really depends on where you go. We still suffer from so much institutionalized inequality. America is a million different countries at once. I don't think you'll find much similarity between the backwoods of Georgia and lower Manhattan.

That of course rings true. America is a huge country with a lot of diversity.

Though I still stand by my "the general American is socio-ignorant" statement.

I'm near the backwoods of Georgia. Being non-white, I don't feel uncomfortable. And I'm pretty observant for racism because I'm pretty stereotypical myself of people of the South.

They don't like Blackies. I'm brown, I'm halfway there. Maybe they half-hate me. :worried:

This.

The America I know has nothing in common with what Khalistani Solider said.

But I hang out in liberal, progressive, green areas like Portland :D

A couple of libreal, progressive, urban cities doesn't change the fact that the majority of America is ignorant and racist.

I've never, ever felt like the colour of my skin was an issue till I went to the states. I've never seen people so self-obsessed with their own "culture" that they refuse to experience what the world has to offer.

Ofcourse, they're great people in the states, I have a shitload of American friends. But I just can't see myself living in America dealing with the shitheads that give Americans a bad rep worldwide.

Problem is there's too many backwoods of Georgia, than there are lower Manhttans...But I completely understand what you mean.

Where were you in the United States? For how long? What context was your visit in?

Are you sure it's not that you're just a rude, unapproachable douchebag? lawl

How can Americans be obsessed with their own culture when they don't really have one?

The rest of the world views the US as having the best culture, as it's a mix of everything else from around the world, and then some.

This is why businesses go from the US to other countries, because those countries want what they think the best country has for themselves. McDonald's, KFC, Taco Bell.

So if we already have what the rest of the world wants, why try and experience theirs? It's like a millionaire deciding to live in a box in an alley just to see what it's like.
Not that the rest of the world is comparable to a hobo, but it's running away from what others want when we already have it.

Fuck me, you killed your argument there. Who the fuck wants KFC, McDonalds and Taco Bell. I don't eat that shit.

And Leprechauns with pots of gold.
