Ok first things first...
People were saying in the other thread that TB is dead and doomed forever. No offence to you guys, youve been around for a while, but me anda couple REALLY old heads have seen this place go through things as bad if not worse.
the only thing is, the effort has to be equal to the problem.
writing this thread only takes me a few minutes, so theres little lost if everyone turns around and says "screw it we cant be bothered", but at the very least i want to get my part across.
my plan is pretty simple, there are no tricks but it should have a good chance of working.
What i initially propose is a massive knockout tourney. Where do we get the battlers from? and why would they want to join?
well for that we would have to try and contact battlers on other sites either directly, or speak to battle forum mods where things are popping and hope they help us out. Henne from what Im told knows a few of the other good boards around here so maybe he could suggest what to do and where to go. the only places i know are rapcheck, 411hype and mrlif.com or something, i really cant remember
.
so why would they join?
well the battle tourny will have prices. i will personally fron $100-$200 to get things popping for first prize. id ned other people to help with 2nd and third. i suggest 3 albums for 2nd and 3 mixtapes for 3rd (maybe Jon could help out).
why would mods/forum leaders help out?
well youd hope that to some extent it would be good will, but on a pure business side the boards would be promoting eachother. any forum that voluntarily helps out will be promoted through the tourney and battles in general. If lets say a 411hype head wins the tourney and it all goes down as is hoped, people will want to check that place out. a lot of the battlers will want to know where the other ones are battling, whats hot, what falling off etc. Plus there are many websites in a similar position to TB. things arent popping in every battle forum, but they have a respectable number of good battlers (here we have Henne, Hellion, myself, Elijah, among others). so again, it would benefit them to get exposure.
What will the tourny be like?
Ideally it would be 6 rounds (32, 16, 8, 4, 2, 1 battlers) which would prob be difficult to do but im sure on the entire battle world online there are 32 people who would join up. at first i propose a simple knockout tourney.
What will keep the battlers around?
in order to be eligible for the tourny you must have a set number of battles or songs already done (lets say 5 for example). this is to prove that the battlers are serious and not simply here for the money. In order to be eligible for future tourneys you have to have been pretty active in either the battle forums or note pad. mods will keep track of whos done what. ofcourse there will be new entrants in a second tourney (if thee is a secon tourney) but people who battle, go away, then come back again after a few months out will not be allowed to participate (IP checks would help us find out whos who, incase of peopel returning under different names).
other possibilities?
alongside the tourney, we may be able to set up a concurring league. that would also have potential prizes (though its not certain) and the format would have ot be decided. however, a leauge could mix up the battles (topical, tag, double points etc) and it coule be similar to real life leagues (one match every 3 days for example) or like leagues seen on TB and rapcheck in the past (battle as much as you like to get as many points as possible).
who would vote?
in order to ensure things go smoothly with little threat of dickriding, the mods would be the only accepted voters. thus its obvious they would have nothing to gain by favouring one battler over the other. it eliminates the threat of "strategic voting". if people have issues about the votes then obviously the point can be brought up through PM or in a thread.
long term plans?
well id assume that if we can initially get a good group of people together then they would want to stick around. if youre in a lyrical area with 40-50 top heads around as well, then youd want to stick around. thats what made this place great back in the day. if we do manage to go into partnership with some sites (two way promotion) we could rotate where the battles are held, have inter board battles/leagues/tourneys etc, similar to the "Ultimate CON championship" that went down very well on TB and RC back in the day.
so that, in a very large nutshell, is my idea...
id like to know what you guys think. if its a no go then thats that. if people are willing to help by going on other boards, looking up on any good ideas being used in other places, would be willing to help with the prizes etc, then thatd get things moving.
let me know what you think...
peace
