Vote now! Vibe

Word of warning - if you don't vote for Johnny J I will reach through your monitor and bitch-slap you.

Here's how I voted:

BRACKET 1 - HOME GROWN SOUND

Dr. Dre VS DJ Toomp
Ant Banks VS DJ Quik
Juicy J VS Rick Rock
Prince Paul VS Shock G
Poison Clan VS Johnny J
The Bomb Squad VS Mr Lee
Beats By The Pound VS Wyclef Jean
Mannie Fresh VS David Banner

BRACKET 2 - MASS APPEAL

The Neptunes VS Will.I.Am
Scott Storch VS Lil Jon (close call but LJ wins on the strength of 'Yeah!' alone lol)
Teddy Riley VS Kay Gee ('No Diggity', 'Jam', 'Remember The Time'...no question Teddy wins...altho I do love Kay Gee's beats)
Diddy & The Hitmen VS Herbie Luv Bug (this seems a little unfair, but Nashiem Myrick and D-Dot means Hitmen win)
Trackmasters VS Larry Smith
Swizz Beatz VS Dust Brothers
Jermaine Dupri VS Irv Gotti (close call but Irv edged it for me)
Timbaland VS Polow Da Don (In 2010 I think Polow is better, but Timbo has more classics in his catalog)

BRACKET 3 - SOUL SAMPLE

Kanye West VS The Heatmakerz (When the audio mix on the vote site hit 'Guess Who's Back', this battle was won)
NO ID VS The Alchemist
Just Blaze VS Hi-Tek (Tek edges it on the strength of 'The Blast')
Erick Sermon VS Daz Dillinger
J-Dilla VS 88 Keys
Organized Noize VS 9th Wonder
Mark The 45 King VS Salaam Remi (love Salaam but Mark edges it)
Pete Rock VS Cool And Dre (lol this was unfair for Cool And Dre, Pete Rock is one of the greatest to ever make a beat)

BRACKET 4 - BOOM BAP

DJ Premier VS Bangladesh
Havoc VS Da Beatminerz
Jam Master Jay VS Easy Mo Bee (No disrespect to the late JMJ, but EMB takes this on the strengths of 'Flava In Ya Ear', 'Get Down', 'Gimme The Loot', 'If I Die 2Nite', 'Dead Wrong', 'Going Back To Cali' and 'Temptations' which are ALL among my favorite hip-hop beats ever)
Rick Rubin VS The Beatnuts ('99 Problems'....'Rock The Bells'....'My Adidas'....nuff said, Rick wins)
Large Professor VS QTip
Marley Marl VS Dame Grease
Diamond D VS DJ Muggs (really close call.....but I think Diamond D edges it)
RZA Vs Rockwilder

Man, Round two is gonna be fucking tough.

I agree with almost all of ur votes other than the following:

Neptunes > WIll.I.Am

Muggs > Diamond D

and Prince Paul >>>>>> Shock G

.. seriously, Shock G has a lot of classic material under his belt.. But Prince Paul is arguable one of the most versatile producers in Hip Hop history. I dont see any reason for him not to be mentioned with the GOAT producers.

But to each his own.. I'm just in complete shock, at that choice G.

btw, the Homegrown category is real tight, so I dont know whats gonna happen there, as long as Dre, Johnny J, Dj Quik, or Prince Paul win.. I'm happy

Mass Appeal, I'd have to give it to Timbaland

Soul Sample has gotta be Dilla or Pete Rock.. although I lean towards Pete Rock on that one

annd Finally.. Boom Bap... show down between Rza and Primo.. but as far as 'boom bap' is concerned Primo has the edge.. Rza is dead serious with his sampling though

I agree with almost all of ur votes other than the following:

Neptunes > WIll.I.Am
Neptunes haven't really made anything I've enjoyed a lot since the last N.E.R.D album which was 2/3 years ago.....I always dig Will's beats and his last solo album "Songs About Girls" was straight fire from start to finish and an undeniable hip-hop classic IMO.

Muggs > Diamond D

Muggs and Diamond D was too close to call honestly, but I had to pick one.

And I'm kinda biased towards Shock cos I'm a D.U. stan lol, that and the fact that he works with some friends of mine and I spoke to him on the phone before lol. I just prefer his productions overall to Prince Paul's. PP has a lot of classics for sure but he's kinda inconsistent IMO, and his 80's work far outshines the rest of his material. Again that was another tough one.

Boom BAP - Easy Mo Bee

fair enough.. Muggs and Diamond D is close, it's more of a preference thing at the end of the day I guess. I personally have always loved Muggs production style, the shit he did on that last Planet Asia album was just insane. I felt like I was listening to some recording from the mid 90s of some lost Wu member.

Also as far as Prince Paul is concerned.. personally I dont think he's inconsistent at all.

Sure his 80s material is undeniable, but then again for him to go from shit like Stetsasonic De La Soul 3rd Bass etc., over to some of that real dark boom bap shit with the Gravediggaz, then movin on to doing one of the best concept albums in hip hop 'prince among thieves' and moving forward to something completely fresh like Handsome Boy Modelling School.. really for me, solidifies his place as one of the GOAT hip hop producers of all time.

I personally dont think he ever missed a step, but thats just my take.

All that matters is,

Home Grown - Dr. Dre
Mass Appeal - Timbaland
Soul Sample - Kanye or Pete Rock
Boom BAP - Easy Mo Bee

IMO
really? Kanye over Dilla? Also dont get it twisted, I'm not a Kanye hater, but I personally dont think he can even be mentioned in the same sentence as Pete Rock.

Also Easy Mo Bee is dope, but Primo... well fuck I cant even explain it.. Primo muhfucka!

.... btw thank u for starting this thread... it might actually stir up some INTELLIGENT hip hop debate, on this forum. (although my last point was not really intelligent at all... its just PRIMO MUHFUCKASS!)

oh and also, I know he's relatively new but Marco Polo deserves a spot on this shit

peace

okay I went through this. Some selections suck but it's still good coming from Vibe. I just hate how they forgot about some great producers and I also hate how they came up with info about producers including "best beat" which usually seems freaking random lol!

In Homegrown Sound I'm between Dre and Johhny J.

Mass Appeal - WHERE THE FUCK IS STATIK SELEKTAH???!!!!!!
He should win hands down.
I didn't vote in this one.

Soul Sample - I'm between Pete Rock and 9th Wonder. Da Beatminerz also had some dope beats.

Boom Rap - oh man this category pwns - it's so hard to discard some producers here.
However RZA should win it. Preemo gets second place from me.

Voted:

Dr. Dre VS DJ Quik (this was such a tough call...i love Quik)
Rick Rock VS Prince Paul
Johnny J VS The Bomb Squad
Wyclef Vs Mannie Fresh

Kanye West VS The Alchemist
Just Blaze VS Erick Sermon
J Dilla VS 9th Wonder
Salaam Remi VS Pete Rock

The Neptunes VS Scott Storch
Teddy Riley VS Diddy & The Hitmen (all the Hitmen put together can't fuck with 'Jam')
Trackmasters VS Swizz Beatz
Jermaine Dupri VS Timbaland

DJ Premier VS Havoc
Jam Master Jay VS Rick Rubin
QTip VS Marley Marl
DJ Muggs VS RZA

I can't fucking believe Easy Mo Bee got voted out in favor of Jam Master Jay. There's no way in hell Jay's beats were sick than EMB's. Oh well.

oh shit forgot to post my votes:

Dr. Dre VS DJ Quik (this was such a tough call...i love Quik)
Rick Rock VS Prince Paul
Johnny J VS The Bomb Squad
Wyclef Vs Mannie Fresh

Kanye West VS The Alchemist
Just Blaze VS Erick Sermon
J Dilla VS 9th Wonder
Salaam Remi VS Pete Rock

The Neptunes VS Scott Storch
Teddy Riley VS Diddy & The Hitmen (all the Hitmen put together can't fuck with 'Jam')
Trackmasters VS Swizz Beatz
Jermaine Dupri VS Timbaland

DJ Premier
VS Havoc
Jam Master Jay VS Rick Rubin
QTip VS Marley Marl
DJ Muggs VS RZA

.. in retrospect, it was real stupid of me to put Timbaland over JD.. Also it sucks that Muggs gotta go, cuz he ended up facing the Rza so early. anndd it also sucks that Alchemist will get KO'd early on to cuz he's facing Kanye West.

and yea Casey it probably will be Dr Dre vs Primo, although personally I think it should be Pete Rock vs Primo.. but Pete Rock probably wont even end up winning the soul sample category cuz of Kanye's popularity. Dont get me wrong Kanye is talented as fuck.. just not as talented as Pete Rock imo.

peace
