the story i've always been told was that when tupac died afeni sued death row for the masters and some 17 million dollars, which were royalties that were never paid to pac. maybe i've been wrong all the time lol. i have an article about this shit at home, an old one thats been around on the net for years. i'll see if i can post it some time unless someone beat me to it. i dont know its origin, so i dont really know the answer though.

I'm pretty sure Suge saw Pac's death as a chance to keep all the masters and to withold the royalties he was owed.
But I'm not sure that he ripped 2pac off while he was alive, I have seen no evidence to prove that, only rumour.

there's a lot of mythology about how much artists make on records... unless you're independent, it's typical for a VERY good contract to give the artist no more than 7% of all sales. so if a record goes platinum that's $15 per CD X 1,000,000 X 0.07 = $1,050,000. factoring in recouping initial costs (and uncle sam gets close to half as well), the artist probably gets 40% of this amount at best. ...being that death row never had good accounting practices, pac was given petty cash that was just enough to keep him happy.

no, he wasn't poor, but yes, he certainly didn't have the money in his pocket that he should have.

yeah it's still left to see any proof also. dante pretty much summed it up in the above post i think.

aeom sold about 3-4 mil and like pac said, it was the most expensive rap album at the time and it still sold that much. say US$22 (though it was probably higher - around 30), pac would get around 5 (normally around one quarter) from each cd, so thats about 20 mil if it was 4 mil copies...
He would get 1 dollar per cd probably. Thats the average amount artists get

pac poor no i wouldn't call him poor im sure once he got famous he was not sleeping on the street

pac had a house and he didnt go hungry plus he had tattoos and jewlery and that shit aint free you know

pac was not poor but he was not super rich either he had money though

by the way how is $110,000 in the bank being poor?
Pac mostly wore his Death Row chain when he was with Death Row so those were free.

I read somewhere that 2Pac was poor. Even though he had a lot of possessions they were Death Row's and other people's. Is this true?
Thats partially true, i remember Ms.Afeni being on 20/20 or something like that, anyway it was back in 96 or 97. She was saying Pac posessed alot of items while living, but after his death they were confiscated, because he didnt own any of it. The cars and other items i believe were Suge's. She sued for money, and maybe even the confiscated items. He died with something like $100,000 in the bank, which isn't exactly poor, but for the #'s his albums was doing it's coming up way too short.

"Gotta be carefull cant let the evil of the money catch me, so when you see me...."

I don't wanna read too deep into anything but doesn't the above quote reference an anti-greed type of thinking?
