they're not the ones taking the oath, so why does it matter? they don't have to say it (or choose to). also, during the prayers, they simply don't have to pray.

President-elect Barack Obama wants to conclude his inaugural oath with the words "I can't take the pressure, I'm sick of bitches, Sick of naggin' bosses bitchin' while I'm washin' dishes," but Hilary Clinton is asking a federal judge to stop him.

I'm atheist but I believe everybody has to right to believe what they want to believe and I think its wrong that some one should force their beliefs onto others. Behaviour like this makes being atheist pointless, One of the main reasons why I am atheist is this type of behaviour, that's what makes me want to avoid religion.

So far all presidents have been religious so I don't understand the big whoop. If you're not a Christian you're not gonna get elected president anyway.

When i run for president in 20 years, I'm gonna pretend I'm a christian. Once I win the election though I'm gonna be like "haha you fuck tards, christianity is bullshit, lol @ you".

Actually, i wish obama would do that.

I live with a bunch of Bible-thumpers and it can get annoying the way they live their life according to a book. Well, I guess you can, but as long as you truly believe it and aren't forced to do so. I can tell you two things that strike me as odd about the aforementioned. One, they have no tolerance for other religions. Everyone else is wrong and they're right. Most religions come from the most intelligent civilizations. You mean to tell me the people that invented the number system, discovered the science of astronomy, and event created our written language were stupid enough to believe in a God if there wasn't any significant proof?

And two, they don't think animals deserve the same respect as humans. Ok, it sounds silly, but they run around killing things in the house instead of just letting them out of the house. They bought a hamster when school started, and continued to dick around with it. Now, I did too, but their reason was "oh, it's not a human being...they have no feelings, etc. etc." That really struck me as odd since...aren't Christians supposed to be peaceful? Like the Muslims? Well, how does that exclude animals? Fine, I'm not perfect, I eat animals, but shit.... at least I'm show compassion on a much smaller scale by not fucking with them when they're next to me and not doing anything.

Animals were made by the Lord to serve us!

(What the Lord in His infinite wisdom meant with fire ants and mosquitoes, I dunno.)

But the Lord works in mysterious ways!

Ok, well, if there is no God, then how do we treat animals? That's how I treat animals, and hell, that's how I live my life. "What if there is no God?"

Really, though, the animal thing depends on the person. I've seen plenty of religious people being great with animals, despite taught theyre there to serve them (well, basically anyway) and I've seen non believer semi-hippies abuse animals. Funnily enough almost the same way you made your example. Some guys bought a mouse from a reptile store (live bait for snakes I guess, lawl) just for fun. I don't know how the little critter ended up. Some assholes may have burned it or some schoolgirl (actually, the -girl part is unlikely since women's relations with mice) may have taken the furry bastard under her wing, but whatever.

Have you been brought up religiously, dear curryman?

Isnt the 'so help me God' bit not in the inaugural address but in the oath that senators etc take? Its optional for the pres-o-dent to say it or not.. i think George Washington was the first to tag it onto the end??

^ I believe they have the God-thing in every oath you take over there. Inaugurations, courts, etc. Obviously most politicians are good Christians (or at least say they are) and take the "proper" oath.

I agree with this. I don't believe in God, but I've been to court, raised my hand and said yes to "so help you God?. It didn't bother me. Obama's belief is representing the American majority's beliefs. Trying to separate a President's politics from his conviction is unrealistic and a waste of time, in my opinion.

The flip side is of course Bush being labeled as a Crusader. he he

Dilla, those are extreme bible thumpers. Those of fucked up sects and/or individuals. Any normal religious person with half a brain is respectful of all religions; we don't view Islam, Hinduism, etc as enemies. Same goes for animals, they deserve the same basic human needs as we do.

Bible thumpers gives us normal believers who mind our business a bad name. lol
