That's what I usually say but I've been eating a vegan diet since I've been in the US and OMFG that Daiya Cheese is incredible. I can see why it's won "product of the year" at the Veggie Awards. It's just sooooooooo good.
Does it act like normal cheese? I mean can you prepare toasts with this? I'd like to try it since I love "normal" cheese but it's fat.

And like Sofi also said, those t-shirts come from underpaid children in Asia. EVERYTHING fucks someone over at some point or another. I'm not condoning that, but it rubs me the wrong way when someone is all moral over one thing like eating meat, but doesn't give a fuck about other, just as important, points.
Exactly. There are so many more important (depending on your morals of course) things to care about.
Gas/Oil and energy industries are way higher on my list and that's why it would piss me off if I for example saw a vegan driving an American-style vehicle preaching how wrong I am.
And think about how many alternatives we have in that matter. Instead we choose to kill our own planet slowly, contribute to the power in possession of these industries that then harm an enormous amount of people and our environment in a major way.
Then even after that there are issues way higher on my priority list than eating meat which shoots down the great idea of vegetarian diet being a savior to our environment. I'm aware that it's good but it's not the most important thing and vegetarians are not the ultimate better people.

It's a slippery slope when you use it as an argument against eating meat in itself. It's a fine argument when used against the bio-industry.

But what about fried bugs? Morally wrong? Trout farms? Morally wrong? Fish caught out at sea? Morally wrong?
Yes, yes, yes, yes and yes.

Those kids arent getting killed. It is a problem yes, and something we need to address also. But you cant justify doing one wrong thing because other wrong things happen.

Thats like saying, oh well, Ill go kill my neighbor because kids are starving to death in third world countries.

My objections to eating meat are totally separate from my objections on slave labor.

i have a funny story about vegetarians: in the a la carte kitchen i learned to cook from the head chef there used to make sage and onion stuffing to compliment the roast chicken dishes for sunday lunch, and there was several vegetarian waitresses that worked there that used to come in the kitchen picking at the food we was cooking, and said they loved sage and onion stuffing, so they be picking eating at the sage and onion stuffing that the head chef cooked with beef dripping, lolz

When I worked in a kitchen, someone (a veggie) didn't want the vegetarian option listed. After a few back and forths between kitchen > waitress > customer she settled on carbonara. Apparently she was ok with bacon...I wanted to stab her in her stupid fake vegetarian face.

I believe that plants and vegetables have a very thin nerve system and can feel pain. I am disgusted with all you vegetarians who hurt them deliberately.

I was just putting up questions for you or anyone to ask themselves, not saying I was perfect on this. If you follow the logic of it, I'm saying, that we have no right, morally, whether you or I or society does it, or has done it for milennia, to do it. And is modern society a good, ideal thing?

It's 7:10 Am, im freaking wasted and I will give you a proper reply later, which hopefully has more thought put into it. But on that part which I bolded I just wanted to comment.

Comment:

No, no and no. Modern Western society sucks. We squander resources like it's Jeally Bean Festival (yeah I just thought of that). We systematically murder animals, opress millions, waste valuable resources, propagate the fucked up balance of wealth.

You wanna change that? I'm all for it. But tackle everything from a principal standpoint (which I think you actually do, given your "nuanced" comment in the vaccine thread), instead of focusing on the meat thing and roll along with the rest of the depravity.

I'm proud I did this without spelling errors.

Pesticides kill billions of living organisms. You MONSTERS! Stop the murdering fruits and vegetable cartels!

Thats why I buy from the organic farm market. They are natural, pesticide free, and therefore healthier for the environment and for me.

The genetic manipulation of crops (and meats) is a totally different discussion.

Plants do have a nerve like system that they use to react to their surroundings like sunlight, but they are not self aware, they do not suffer the same kind of pain, they do not think, and therefore while they have physical reactors they do not feel.

Furthermore most crops do not kill the plant. When you pick an apple, you dont kill the tree, you pick it's fruit, which is naturally designed to be picked or fall to the ground.

While I don't think that genetic manipulation has been proven unhealthy sure pesticides, especially some herbicides have.
The most toxic ones are used on railroads and such but still some that are sprayed over crops are really dangerous too.
