I usually wouldn't start a thread like this, but the topic was on the radio and people were calling in praising it, and others condemning it. I found it interesting so here we go.

It's a PETA commercial. lol. Yes ladies and gents, I have opened a new can of worms, REJOICE!

Now, what's your opinion of it? Do you think it's a bit extreme? Do you think it's a low blow using children? Do you think it's wrong since Thanksgiving is around the corner? Maybe you think it's freaking awesome, or maybe like me... think Thanksgiving in general is a piece of shit. lol

NBC passed on airing a PETA commercial on turkey cruelty during its Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, the animal cruelty activist groups says.

The commercial shows a girl saying grace before her families Thanksgiving feast. During her prayer, she tells her family -- as PETA describes it -- "exactly like it is for turkeys who are killed for holiday meals."

PETA says that NBC first asked for more information to substantiate the claims. The groups says it provided the network with a New York Times article on the abuses turkeys face, but the article provided was actually an op-ed piece from 2003 by Patrick Martins, the director of Slow Food U.S.A.

NBC ultimately rejected the ad, PETA says.

I think it's the wrong approach to getting ppl to stop eating meat. It's not really helpful or informative...it's just annoying. Why not suggest alternatives to turkey?

Gotti took the words right out my mouth. The sad thing is, PETA has a very valid point regarding animal cruelty, but they're always bringing it in this totally militant, facist, spiky-boot kind of way.

Every-fucking-one going vegan isn't even a realistic solution anyway.

Well, I don't think the commercial has enough time to talk to people about alternatives, but I think the meaning of the commercial is to show people that the way the 'gobbles gobbles' are treated is cruel beyond belief, and that you can buy Organic turkey, by that I mean Turkeys have lived outside, aren't stuck in cages, treated like shit, etc etc

I do belief PETA are sometimes extreme, but this commercial didn't bother me one bit. Didn't they use a nail bomb inside a mailbox of some Meat tycoon once or something like that? lol.

This specific ad isn't that bad indeed, but NBC doesn't wanna ruin the holiday spirit.

I support PETA. In fact, me and my cousin are both spokespersons (spokespeople?) for PETA, we've filmed commercials for them before and we launched PETA in India by offering copies of our album as competition prizes, which was a very successful endeavour since we were the hottest band around in India at that time (around the same time we headlined at the MTV Awards there and did a song for a Bollywood movie).

I understand the criticism aimed at us (PETA and PETA supporters), but sometimes, you gotta go all out. I don't give a fuck if I offend a meat eater the same way I don't give a fuck if I offend religious people when I offer the truth.

There's no candy coating this shit, you SHOULD feel bad for eating meat, unless you're completely ignorant about what the animals go through. There's fuck-all justification for doing it.

Am I supposed to recognise this person?

My point didn't sound angry in my head for the record. I think people misinterpret the things I say. If I was to speak that post in real life, I'd say it in the casual calm tone that I always use.

I may not wholeheartedly agree with PETA's campaign, but I LOVE their advertising:

How can you be vegetarian and want to gnaw on that rump?

Peta thinks that being controversial will change people's way. All it can do is show how incompetent they are and their supposed controversy will soon have no effect as people get more and more used to their ways.

I bet more people will see the ad now than they would have if it was actually televised. I don't know a single person who watches the T Day parade, my G'ma doesn't even watch it

Do I have a problem with this commercial? Would I have a problem with a commercial reminding me that my spending habits are fucking with somebody's elses life? Nay.

All it can do is show how incompetent they are
How incompetent are they?
Also, what would work? What type of commercial would make you stop eating meat?

It's a good idea but I think it could have been done better. Talking about someone kicking a turkey coz they think its funny is in my opinion going away from the issue. Staying on the everyday suffering they go through I think would hit people harder and not come across preachy.

K you've missed the point. Trying to make people do something you want them to do is fascism. You have your own opinions and you should not force them on others.

I doubt that you would appreciate a Jehovah Witness knocking on your door forcing there beliefs on you, so you shouldn't do it to others.

Certainly I've brought up some pro-meat eating points in previous discussions. But I'd never try and force some one to eat meat. Why? Because it is there choice and you have absolutely no right to criticize some ones beliefs or opinions.

If you choose to not eat meat, then it is your choice, i have no issue with that.
