ACTOR Michael L. Brea has been taken into custody after allegedly killing his mother with a samurai sword while screaming biblical passages.

According to TMZ, Brea — who has appeared on Ugly Betty — sliced 55-year-old Yannick Brea’s head off during the attack.

Michael, 31, is said to have gone on a religious rant, commanding his mother to “repent” before stabbing her to death in their Brooklyn, New York home.

Police told NY1 that Michael was holding a Bible when police arrived on the scene. He was then taken to a nearby hospital for a psychiatric evaluation with a police escort.

A neighbor, Gregory Clarke, told WPIX he overheard the melee: “I hear the brother chasing her [his mother] through the house and he’s just saying a bunch of like [Bible] passages like, ‘Repent, Repent, Repent.’”

The neighbor continued, “I heard him chasing her through the house and I hear a loud scream and so I have my father call the cops, call 911.”

Brea has not been formally arrested or charged yet.

Science itself is harmless. The VAST majority of destruction aided by science happened as a direct result of the religious beliefs of the people pushing the button. Fact. Give me some examples of "equally dumb shit" done by atheists.

Start off with something as equally dumb, as, say, the christian crusades. Roughly 1.5 million killed by the invading christian army, in the name of jesus, essentially, killing anyone and everyone who refused to convert.

Hm, I don't think the dropping of the atomic bomb can be blamed on religion and to claim science it self is harmless is an absurd proposition. I do believe religion separates people and we would be better off without it. But, I can't stand the conceited mentality that seems to be this "new atheism"'s natural corollary. I am personally an agnostic, but I know of many geniuses who believed in something more. Smarter men than any of us. Very rarely do these men believe in any of these doctrines, or attach specific traits to this great mystery. I don't see how this sort of faith without belief would be a problem.

I think chances are a world without religion would have just as much evil. It'd just be a more honest evil, people wouldn't be able to hide behind it. And you guys would be a lot more bored, without religion to lampoon.

The thing is...not really. Not even close. There aren't millions killed over the years because a group of people think there is no God. Sure, atheists do dumb stuff like the rest of us, but never "in name of" something.

Of course, Casey makes it into a rather lame attack on religion, cos I'm guessing mr. Brea is teaspoon crazy, religion or not. Perhaps it was insanity, perhaps the miracle of mind altering drugs, but I'm quite sure he didn't lob her head off out of pure religious conviction.

Those people are there though. The ones that'll do that. You still won't find sane non-believers cutting heads for the Great Gatsby, Goldfish Emperor Quarlax or the Bull-god of Durk-Durk.
