Vegetarian strongman Patrik Baboumian recently took the crown at Germany's Strongest Man 2011 competition, showcasing the power of a healthy, plant-based diet. Baboumian, already considered one of the strongest men alive, has held the log lift world record since 2009 and in 2010 he set a new German heavyweight log lifting record of 397 pounds.

5 years is a pretty long time. Considering he's recently won, you can deny that his diet will have had an effect on him

Only since under 2 weeks ago though....?
Yeah, it doesnt say clearly whether he ate dairy or not (I might not have looked hard enough though). I dont think he ate fish though.

If he is going vegan now, I assume he had some dairy in the past

Im curious for the details too, his blog is pretty thin... the forum looks good but it is all in german!

Edit:

I just used google translate on someone who asked for a meal plan.. this was his response:

I have good news for you:)

First off is vegetarian or vegan food is not expensive sports teacher! I've used as the main protein source in recent years quark, but now go to a purely herbal alternatives oftofu (you'll even get at Aldi), seitan or tempeh. For before the workout I've been usingwhey protein, now that I replaced by soy isolate.

Besides that, vegan diet your body and you can eat more and high quality, what if you do it with brains can lead to amazing results. There are already numerous successfulathletes on the vegan diet. I'm just one example of many!

For a vegetarian bulking You can look at the shake-Baboumian look at you: ShakeBaboumian where there can be replaced by the whey protein soy isolate.
He refers to this

(it does contain milk) Im wondering what he will do once he goes full vegan... you never go full vegan

Yeah.... I think he'll find it difficult. Bodybuilding isn't really natural, and to get to his size you have to take protein supplements. With the main products being animal based.

^^^4200 calories is a "lot" for "general" bodybuilding. The problem with that diet is that it is all soy based protein, unless the supplements are non-Vegan, and thus it's not a complete protein profile.

Assuming for a moment the numbers are correct, you can still tell that it is half assed anyway, simply because he hasn't scheduled any work outs and thus pre and post workout meals. It was just a case of "hey, let's throw a bunch of numbers together that add up to a bigger number and 'prove' it is possible."

If he's working out between 7 and 10am, morning workout, the 10AM post workout meal is not big enough, at all, and lacks carbs. Same deal with his 10PM workout. In fact, none of those meals are sufficient post workout meals for ANYBODY who is a bodybuilder, "general" or not.

That is, at best, a "sustain" muscle plan, or "prevent muscle break down" plan. Not a plan for bodybuilding like it suggests.

My calorie intake is about 4000 claories a day. And like I said.... My physique is on the skinny side of pretty poor. I guess that is down to genetics, health and quick metabolism though.

forks over knives, folks.
I will be watching this when a decent rip appears online. I think the issue is with processed foods, of which meat becomes more and more. I also think that we are eating too much meat over plant based foods. I try and manage a healthy balanced diet. 10 years ago my diet was mainly sugar, processed foods and no green stuff. I also drank 6-8 cans of coke a day. It was not good.
