Shakur Estate Moves Against Songs' Sale
LOS ANGELES, Tue Jul 24, 08:21 AM

Tupac Shakur's mother is seeking to prevent his former label, Death Row Records Inc., from selling the late rapper's unreleased recordings as part of a bankruptcy settlement.

Afeni Shakur sought an injunction in federal bankruptcy court Friday claiming Death Row was attempting to sell Shakur material that belonged to the rapper's estate.

Unreleased recordings should have been turned over to the estate as part of a 1997 agreement with the record label, said attorney Donald N. David, who represents the estate.

But during Death Row's bankruptcy proceedings, "it was revealed that an album's worth of unreleased Tupac material was being advertised to potential buyers as the jewel in the crown of the Death Row assets," David said.

Afeni Shakur and the company she established, Amur Entertainment, requested an injunction after the label failed to confirm the songs would not be included in the bankruptcy settlement, David said.

The court was expected to consider the request within a month when it decides whether to permit the label to release an album with the unreleased tracks to help pay off its debts, David said.

A call to Ronald L. Leibow, an attorney representing Death Row in bankruptcy proceedings, was not immediately returned Monday.

In the 1990s, Death Row was home to superstar rappers such as Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, as well as Shakur.

The label's fortunes — and those of its owner, Marion "Suge" Knight — started to slide when Shakur was shot and killed in 1996 while riding in the passenger seat of Knight's car.

The shooting took place after the pair were involved in a fight in a Las Vegas hotel. The attack resulted in Knight being sent to prison for violating his parole.

After Shakur's death, Death Row and the rapper's family settled for an undisclosed sum amid allegations that the label had defrauded Shakur, David said.

Knight sought bankruptcy protection for himself and the company in April 2006. He claimed debts of more than $100 million in each filing.

At the time, Knight estimated personal assets of zero to $50,000. Last month, the rap mogul placed his seven-bedroom, 9 1/2-bath home on the market for $6.2 million as part of his financial overhaul.

sad for Suge lol. that guy must seriously be such a wreck by now. he used to be a king, now he's a laughable little obsessive dude who couldn't let go. haha. i would kill myself probably.

as for the tupac material, c'mon. who didn't know. amaru had no record of all the tracks pac recorded so if death row held back 10-15 songs the estate would probably never know.

hey, maybe soon as i get home is in there :)

edit: btw i don't quite get your thread title. you are asking if these songs are songs we didn't know about?

this website is not mrmakaveli. obviously your retardation made you misread the url in your browser's address bar.

what you're saying is like saying sweden sucks because they have more lakes than scotland. hey, guess what, the tupac section here isn't as big as the one on mrmakaveli. surprise. looking through the life section before making your thread you would see the amount of pages, replies and views for each thread. you mean you couldn't tell? this website no longer focuses on tupac, it focuses on hiphop in general. people who want tupac shit go to mrmakaveli because it's dedicated solely to tupac. among things sucking you can place your expectations when you made this thread.

lol @ "23-50".

proved me wrong? listen here buddy, your impression of the situation is a little bit distorted. here is the event of this thread as it went down:

you come here. you go into the tupac section. YOU make a thread about something, then wait around for a while, probably hitting the refresh button while viewing the life forum so you could get instantaneous replies. stupid. the concept of a message board is to leave a message so people can get back to you later. there is msn, aim, yahoo and irc for instant replies. soon as you realize you are not going to get your answer right away, you get either annoyed, disappointed or angry, and you reply to your own thread without anyone responding to you saying we suck because by mere chance no other member was logged in at the time. it's like saying i suck because the clock turns six one hour after five. is it really my fault or anyone's fault? this forum suffers from a drastic cut in members and activity. trust me, the members who come here often know this so well that your little outsider's opinion is not needed. you are only making us more aware of the problems we are already working on somehow fixing or already have in the back of our minds. you are not contributing or helping, you are being a selfish asshole who couldn't wait. and you try to tell me i'm the one calling names like you're some poor little victim.

when i was making it overly obvious that you must somehow have made a mistake and thought you were posting on mrmakaveli, i was painting the picture that if you enter a half-dead forum and make a thread it's not reasonable to assume you're suddenly gonna have massive activity out of the blue. i knew very well what site you thought you were on so it was not retardation that did it, i was mocking your lack of perspective. and you said you proved me wrong on all matters like this is a trial.

i'm gonna take a chance and say you made a thread here only so you could diss us for not being as good as mrmak. i may be wrong and this is pure speculation. either way your name will be forgotten in 15 minutes, so don't think i'm catching feelings, i'm just saying. i don't know what ticked you off but you are being unreasonable. let's just forget this and get back to discussing the thread. you can tell me you were right and i was wrong and we can go back and forth, but what i said is true and anyone who isn't a hater and who can have a reasonable debate without saying some stupid name and running off will agree with me. obviously, the aforementioned kind will turn to antics like you did.

have a nice day.

at least i don't have to use the word "fuckin" and "suck" in every other sentence.

you made a thread and was being selfish and moronic in my eyes, and it annoyed me, nothing more.

you have a funny way of taking one word out of my post, example: outsider's opinion; and ask me a question straight out of context. "this outside shit" is when you suddenly started telling us we suck and started comparing us to mrmak. you came off as a mrmak user, so i think my assumption was fair. i don't get what it is you don't understand. anyway, i'll take it back my assumptions about your internet habits, but everything else i said still stands, if you expect instantanous replies the problem is you, not the board. and if you think we suck you can keep it to yourself because we know :thumb:

/me misses hitemup.com lol

not to go off topic, like it really matters at this point, but is that domain just gonna sit there or what? i'm just surprised the owners (who?) haven't done something to it by now. it would be poppin again im sure if someone made that into a Tupac site again. although obviously it would never be the way it was before :(

right shit and fuck i know. well that stems from this being a rap site, no need to be on point. you are mean and you judge me for no reason. i like streethop not mrmak. i'm for the cause and at least i'm trying 2 start stuff here. you would think i would be welcomed after 4 plus years on here. but instead you and others like you make me want 2 not come back. you guys suck, holly shit man we all suck why take it so hard. and by the by , i cuss we i find it fit not just random every other word so dont try in make it seem like i'm some dumb e- im so cool i put fuk instead of fuck lol omfg and all that other net stuff. holla i'm done

lol you give me a guilty conscience, guy.

if i was over-assumptous and mistaken i apologize. you are welcome to post here, and it was not your effort to start shit i had a problem with, it was your disappointmed when the shit you started didn't go exactly the way you wanted, that's what i had a problem with.

to the hitemup question. not long after the site was hacked, jon left and went on with real life. i don't know who controls the domain today, but it's not the streethop administration. the domain was registered for several years in advance, so the subscription has to run out and someone has to be out early and re-register it soon as it diminishes. if the owner doesn't re-register before the period is over. basically, i wouldn't put money on getting that domain back any time soon, but i haven't talked to the administration about it in years. i don't think anyone still has inclination to spend time and effort to get it back. rukas doesn't even want to run streethop anymore, he's gonna be a forum admin but a friend of his is taking over the running of the actual site.

to word is bond, no hard feelings, let's get back to the thread because this is actually very interesting news. i already figured suge had held back some tracks. i mean c'mon. when amaru sued death row for the money they owed pac and the rights to the masters, they probably had no idea what death row had in their possession. so death row could have held back more tracks and they would probably possibly never know.

i'm very excited about what is going to happen with the estate now. if i remember correctly, the rights to tupac's music weren't sold, but amaru did a fusion with another company who are gonna handle the practical part of releasing an album, right? now this. it's an exciting time to be a tupac fan imo.

and i've actually long meant to get more involved in the 2pac section, because contrary to a lot of people on this site, i'm still a bit of a tupac head. we'll see what kind of efforts i put in place over time lol.

well one can only hope that hitemup.com comes back, i guess. i still think of it every now and then and it just seems crazy that something that was once so strong as a community has completely diminished. obviously this wasnt the origional owners fault. every once in a while i even type in the domain just to see whats there. to me its just plain logic to think that someone will eventually take advantage of that domain and attempt to construct another great tupac community. when that does happen ill be the first one there. anyways i guess theres no point in talking about hitemup especially since i know nothing of who actually owns it or the reasoning for someone hacking it. i just remember back in 04 when i first found it and was on there 24-7. anyways enough with hitemup, its like ancient history i guess, pz.

yeah that hitemup site was unbelievably good! so was musicfantalk before hitemup took off. haha the good old days when the internet and the 2pac discussion was at its peak. No bitches just straight discussion. I think the whole 7 years alive theories bred such massive discussions and interest, today it would be similar to this forums. Everyone has fallen off and moved on with their own lives. Just savour the memories lol
