Can someone explain the appeal of twitter to me? I just dont get it at all. Why should I have this over myspace or facebook or even just a blog?

I have a blog, a facebook and a myspace. They all existed independantly, but now are all intertwined via Twitter. I can update my Twitter and the content is synchronised to all of them automatically from wherever I am via data, sms, or wifi. I have a Twitter app on my phone that pushes all of my followers updates to my phone in REAL time.

There's a reason why Twitter had had a 600% growth rate in the last 12 months and why Facebook offered them $500 million to buy them (which they wisely refused).

I predict half of you on this board will be using it within a year. And if you aren't, it's your loss. Twitter fucking rocks.

Well, before I read Casey's post, I thought it was just simply a status bar that you could update through your comp or your mobile device. I thought it was basically just the Facebook status bar, except a site dedicated just to it. I think I might go check it out now after the way Casey's been praising it.

Just went on to their site. Yup. It's gay. No one needs to know the small things I'm doing with my life. It would just consist of "Masturbating" "Masturbating" "Masturbating" "Getting something to eat" "Watching a movie" "Masturbating" "Is depressed" "Is gone to sleep."

I think I'd lose my friends that way.

I'm going to see her when she comes to Montreal :)

But I don't know I like my facebook. I think I'll stick to it. Plus everybody I know has facebook so... lol

I made a thread about it recently. It's a good tool to use if you want to be informed about others. Not every person you subscribe to or whatever just says what they're doing at the moment. There are better ways of utilizing Twitter.

That's what it looks like at first, but there is a LOT more to it than that.

SOFI knows what's up.

It is hard to explain really. My cousin didn't understand it and then I spent a few hours with him explaining the ins and outs, I set him up with Twitter clients on his MacBook and smartphone, now he can't get enough of it.

Carmi, Twitter isn't supposed to be a replacement for Facebook.

Check out the following examples of people utilizing Twitter effectively.

Twitter / CaseyRain (me)
Twitter / swamimusic (my band)
Twitter / BarackObama
Twitter / qoolquest (?uestlove)
Twitter / noreaga (N.O.R.E)

You can also track events on Twitter, so that the anyone who tweets about the keywords that you are tracking, those updates will get pushed to your client or device even if you aren't following that person. Twitter really "came of age" so to speak during the recent Mumbai terrorist attacks and of course the US election. Great way of tracking what's going on AS it happens.

Check out Twitter Search and put in a keyword that interests you to see an example of how that works. For example the other day I was using Twitter search to track people's responses to the new Prince songs in real time as they were getting premiered on a LA radio station.

I also use TwitXr.com which is like Twitter but for photos. You can upload a photo there and it will automatically post a Twitter update with a link to the photo (and mobile TwitXr clients also geotag your photos if your phone has GPS or you can enter manual locations). It also can sync the photo automatically to Facebook, Flickr, Picasa, your blog, etc etc etc.

For example, when I was explaining it to my cousin, me, him and his 10 year old son went out to the park to play some soccer. My cousin has a computer set up to his big flatscreen TV in his living room. My cousins wife was staying at home with their daughter while we went to the park and was looking at Facebook on the big TV. I told her to look at my Facebook page in approx 10 minutes, and when we got to the park, I snapped a pic of the three of us on my phone, uploaded it instantly via a TwitXr client and she saw it instantly on my Facebook, literally seconds after it was taken.

We update our fans that way as well, like taking photos backstage at gigs, TV shows, video shoots etc.

But seriously what's up with talking to the phone, asking people face to face what's up. If people know everything I do, there's no point in asking what's up anymore to people...

let's say i'm in class and i really like this girl in there. and we're both on mobile facebook through twitter and i'll like put mad emo quotes in my status to show her what a sensitive guy i am and seduce her. now there's a point that wins me over right away and i just made it up.

Well, it seems stupid, but it's certainly starting to pick up some steam. Numbers say there are 5,000-10,000 new accounts a day and it's one of the fastest growing sites.

lol at carmi's above comments now that shes a member.

casey, how would i intertwine the statuses between my accounts etc?

im thinking of making a twitter account, though i may not use it as much unless other friends are on there.

to be honest, im become bored with facebook and i only enjoy talking to a few people on there but they are bored with it too so theyre hardly on there, which is a lack of communication.

before anyone says anything, i do see, phone and text them.

You need to add an application to your Facebook called "TweetSync". Take a look at my Facebook, you'll see that after my status it says "via TweetSync". That syncs it so that when I make a Twitter update it goes to my Facebook automatically.
