The Love Of Music

#1
Okay, I love music, I love to sing, but ever since I was little I was told I wasn't good so I stepped away from music.

Now I feel like I gave up on a big part of myself, and after hearing my whole life "you suck" "your not good" "shut up" I still hear that in my head everyday that I try to sing again and I begin to believe it.

I feel like music is the biggest passion I have, and now I don't know what to do.

When I am in front of people I freak, but when I'm by myself I surprise myself by the range, tone, and notes that I reach at times. So what should I do?

My fiancee gets mad at me because he has heard me and he believes in me, but that doesn't change what I feel. I begin to feel like I am fighting with a big part of myself.

So what do I do?

Honestly, a lot of times i think i can sing very well too but then i realize if i keep telling myself that i'll be one of those idiots everyone laughs at in American Idol.

Now, we all know shadows is a horny bastard so he'd say anything to still have his booty privileges.

That doesn't mean you suck. What you can do is sing something and post it here and hear what people have to say. What do you have to lose? It's just random people you'll never meet so there is nothing to worry about.

Also if music is really your passion there are a range of different aspects to it other than singing. If you really are passionate about it you'll find a way to contribute to the culture.

It is simple, go to a professional vocal coach. Have some lessons to train your natural talent and then see how it goes. RECORD yourself singing, your voice in your head is much much difference to how it comes out recorded and finally compressed, stacked, eqed and mixed.

So in short, spend some cash on a couple lessons, then record something in a professional studio with a professional engineer and see how you like it and how Shadows, those involved, and your friends like it.

That's the only way to find out.

Whatever you do, don't go on American Idol with the "my friends tell me I sound like Mariah Carey" type of shit. We laugh at american idol rejects in my marketing class all the time.

Why not post an audio of you singing here? You can record it alone, it can be a short segment, we don't have to rate it on a scale from 1-10, we'll just give a yes or no vote, LIKE AMERICAN IDOL OH MY GOD!!.
At least we can determine if you have somewhat of a voice or simply shouldn't sing.

lol. Not even. I still get my booty. ;)

The first time I heard her voice I couldn't get it out of my head. I loved it. But I have to beg her to sing b/c she doesn't think shes good.

You know how your teased by your sisters growing up? Well, her step-dad and siblings did that to her so now she has no confidence.

I begged her to make a song. We actually went and re-wrote one of her poems, and i produced a song and she liked it, but would not sing in front of me. She only recorded it on my phone.

Anyway, I lost the music when i got a new phone, but i kept her voice.

She was thinking of going to a vocal coach. Hopefully we can accomplish that this summer and send it to you guys.

I told her she literally has to sing to strangers to get an actual opinion since she didn't believe in mine.

Honestly, I don't know what singer to compare her to, but I can easily say that shes MUCH better than Hilary Duff and all those little hoes. ;)

Thanks for the advise guys.... I don't need to gtfo because I will post audio, it won't hurt and that way at least my head will be cleared, I'll work on it and get back to you guys, but I can't promise things right away. I'll keep you posted.

As for the recording, I always dreamed about doing it more these days than in the past, so I'm gonna take it as a sign to try to get over the issue.

I've always had a burning passion for music, however I have no musical skills what so ever.

My forte has always been academics and sports.

Thanks guys, I have been looking at some vocal coaches in town, but I don't want someone that doesn't know what they are doing and just wants to con people into paying them for nothing. Being careful, but I will work on it.

Post up an acapella, I will clean it up, mix it, and maybe put it on top of some music for you. I work with singers every day and am a professional vocalist and songwriter myself, so I can give you an honest opinion.

This has nothing to do with her singing and the thread.

^lol, shut up SiGh.

As much as there is tension between us, I still think she's better than a lot of famous people....just not like a Christina Aguilara person.

And I know what u just did, u bumped the thread so she can get an email.

Jackass.
