I thought downing was villas best player last year. And he played mainly on the right cutting in.

Yeah he was their best player, would be a good move for Liverpool.

David De Gea is pretty much signed.

Rumours that Tottenham have accepted a £35m bid from Man Utd for Modric.....

If I was Spurs and Modric wanted to leave, I'd sell him, no worries. They need to move quick for a replacement.I'd sell Bale too. If I got 80M for the pair, it's good business.

Do clubs pay a transfer fee after dealing with the release clause?

Santos president Luis Alvaro de Oliveira Ribeiro has confirmed five clubs in Europe have agreed to pay Neymar's €45 million release clause. The clubs - named in widespread reports throughout Brazil as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester City and Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala - will now be given permission to speak to Neymar.

Adebayor turned down Zenit saying he loves the country but he could never play in Russia.

In other words he doens't want to be racially abused.

The World Cup will be brilliant.

Liverpool still need to dump some of the deadwood around the club...I heard that Sammy Lee has left can anybody confirm this? I have also heard that Nahib El Zhar is on 35k a week...Surely thats bullcrap!!!

we had been linked with Wickham for ages. but never made any move for him. strange.

so were Newcastle though.
Liverpool probably didn't want to pay £13m for an unproven teenager, I don't blame them either. Though Pittsey probably has seen more of him, how good is he?

Also i thought Sunderland had financial difficulties? but they're spending money quite freely, £8m for Gardener also. Plus the £12m in total for Gibson, O'Shea, Brown - if they're still interested that is?

I haven't seen too much of him to be honest. But I am sure we've all seen his wonder goal for Ipswich. I have seen him a few times since his debut though, and I know his goal record was poor last year, but he was playing wider than he would have liked.

Millwall had some fantastic teenagers a few years back. Cherno Samba and Moses Ashikodi. Both made debuts at 15 or 16, and played pretty regular at 17.... Liverpool and Man Utd were monitoring Samba. Askikodi got sacked for threatening to stab another player in the canteen.... All downhill from there.

They should have excelled but didn't due to attitude. Not saying that I think Connor Wickham will, because he may become the next Alan Shearer.... But... It's a big risk for Sunderland...!

i remember Samba from football manager lol

not sure about Wickham though, i havent seen him play at all but Dalglish has more often than not been a good judge of a player. You mentioned Shearer. It was Dalglish that brought a young Alan Shearer from Southampton to Blackburn so i feel that if Wickham was that good, we would have got him. If we genuinely lost out to Sunderland to get his signature, then its not good.

I think that Juventus have offered Felipe Melo and some cash for Guiseppe Rossi.

Shay Given looks likely to join Aston Villa according to today's irish independent.

i keep reading in that newspaper that Arsenal will bid for Kevin Doyle. the guy who says that also said that liverpool will move for John O Shea and Bayern Munich are after Shane Long. The article about Given joining Aston Villa is a good source though.

Man City withdraw from race to sign Alexis Sanchez saying that he was open to a move to them. so if he was open to a move, why did they withdraw? more like he wasnt interested i reckon.

Yeah. He is up there with Ian Wright, Thiery Henry, Dennis Bergkamp. Exactly what they need.

What constitutes a good player to you? Irish nationality? Scouse heritage?
most people recognise that he is a good playerthough. which he is. for example, i know alot of people on the liverpool forums rate him. he has a lot of good qualities. ofc im not saying he is up there with those players you mentioned and i dont believe that Arsenal will want to buy him.

and ofc im not saying this because he is irish. there are plenty of shit irish players there. like our midfield for example. However, Doyle is one of one of the better irish players around.
