Pointing out the lies, contradictions, hypocrisies and flaws in a belief is not the same as shitting on it. The problem is some people are simply unable to accept the truth because they are preconditioned and brainwashed through being raised in that religion/faith.
It's like - if every day since you were born, I told you that water was dry, and took you to some stupid building where everyone else also said that water was dry, and then when you were mature enough to be out in the real world, someone tried to explain to you that water was actually wet, you would not be able to believe that either. It would literally go against everything you've been told your entire life.
If you were intelligent enough to be able to step outside of your own experiences and look at things logically and rationally, you would come to the conclusion that "OK - water actually is wet". But most people are unable to do that.
That's why atheism is prevalent in countries with the highest standards of education, and you won't find a great deal of atheists in countries where people are poor and uneducated. Religions take advantage of this to draw people in that don't know any better - Christianity being probably the worst offender with things like the Crusades, etc. In more recent times, newer religions/cults employ these same methods of preying on the weak - that's why you see Scientology tents set up whenever there's a crisis. They set up tents in schools after there's been shootings, etc, or after natural disasters such as earthquakes.
Religion is for the weak minded.
