This thread is funny. Instead of US trying to prove he was or wasnt to YOU, YOU should prove to US that he was or wasnt.

Some of us are busy, ya know.

I think this issue ties in with his beliefs about god. His ideas about this issue changed alot, and if you listen to the beginning of resurrection, where he says that when you die you are either in heaven or just somewhere quiet, this shows that he wasn't really sure about death. He tried to convince himself that he was living in the right way in his music when he came out of jail, but he still mentioned god and things like ''forgive me lord I'm insane'' in when thugz cry I think. If you listen to So Many Tears, in that song he feels depressed because he thinks he's going to hell. But in '96 he always said he felt he was doing the right thing so he was headed for heaven. However when he was being carted into hospital he was heard screaming ''I'm dying, I'm dying.'' I think he was afraid to die deep down because he was spiritiaully insecure and never had 100% faith about what would happen to him when he died.

well if we came right down to it, i'm pretty sure Pac feared death, or at least feared the unknown aspects of death (what happens to us, where do we go when we die, etc.) just like the rest of us do. however you won't find any evidence of this in his music or lyrics, and that was what the thread starter was asking.

His infactutation with death proves he was heavily scared of it. It dominated his thoughts during life. Just because of his bravado, shown in lyrics such as those quoted above, doesn't mean we believe what he is saying.

His actions show a different story than that of his lyrics.

I found it interestring when someone pointed out to me that Poets are more susceptible to an early death/suicide, according to psychological study:

http://www.cfah.org/hbns/news/poet12-01-03.cfm

“Poetry may appeal to people who are more likely to be self-destructive,”

“If poets really do die sooner than other writers — and notice it’s not that much sooner — they do so because of the nature of poetry,”

"Other researchers have said that poets who ultimately commit suicide may leave clues in their writings."

This article suggests a link between Poets - Death, as if the idea/concept of death affects them more than most people.

To be or not to be, that is the question.

I agree with this. He wanted to die. Plus it pieced everything together perfectly. He not only wanted it, he NEEDED it.

Being paranoid about death and expecting to be killed doesn't mean he wanted to die or wasn't afraid of death.

Look how often he talked about the future in songs like Krazy. He talked about politics years down the road, he was getting more and more into movies etc. And he had too much to live for, like providing for his family.

there is a big difference in knowing or thinking you will die young and wanting to die. Pac did not want to die. if you're in a situation where you no longer want to live, you usually stop making plans for the future, and as Morris pointed out, he never stopped planning for the future. look at all the things he talked about wanting to do in the last year of his life. did he really sound like a man who was ready, or wanted to die?

lol that is a movie, Pac is acting. you can't compare his real life to a role he played in a film. next you'll say he was a junkie because he played one in Gridlock'd

I think tupac had some kind of fascination/obsession about death, and had a whole range of emotions, feelings, perspectives about it. Fear being one of them, maybe.

From tupacs lyrics it seems that he was somehow coming to terms with death - he said himself MATW album was all about dealing with death. His music doesn't portray a static fear of death, When he talks about death it sounds like he is trying to express something he finds hard to define, so he goes through a whole range of perspectives about it.
