I agree that his tactics are awful to watch, but the Villa squad is weak, they're playing kids who aren't ready for this level yet, if he went gung ho and attacked teams, they would probably get slaughtered. Dunne and Collins have been shit this season, the midfield without Reo-coker (has limited as he is..) lacks any tackles. Who is selling these players? is it McLeish or is it Randy Lerner tightening the purse strings? You can't sell Downing and Young and expect to have a better season as the youngsters like Albrighton have regressed and N'Zogbia flopped.

Aston Villa are boring to watch, but I don't think they can play any other way and expect to stay up.

Before all the injuries Mcleish was still knocking it long down the channels for Bent. It was awful. Ironically enough, since the injury to Bent he has kept the ball on the ground a lot more. Even with the talented Emile on the pitch.

The problem now is that Villa are unable to attract the targets to the club.

Looks like Carlos Cuellar will be leaving on a Bosman :(.

We bought him for £7.8m four years ago invoking a buy-out clause in his contract with Rangers. Unfortunately he did'nt get a proper run in the first team. I would've said Hutton on the bench and Cuellar at right-back, or drop Dunne or Collins for a while and Cuellar in the centre.

They needed to let McLeish go. He was a very expensive mistake. Completely the wrong manager.

I would like to see a young manager in charge. Or my choice would be the very under rated Billy Davies. Plus he wouldn't cost much...

Man City deserved it. Plus pathetically I'm quite pleased certain City players have won medals (Aguero, Zabaleta, Hart) Oh what happened to me overly caring about winning and losing :(

Anyone seen the Steve Kean video calling Fat Sam a crook?

We paid like £4m in compensation to Small Heath after he resigned from them, then add in his wages and the compensation he receives for termination of his contract - a further £2m. I'm sure he didn't mind being sacked with a cheque in the sum of £1-2m.

I like Billy Davies and George Burley. But.... I don't run a football club. And I can't imagine any Premier League clubs putting them in charge.

Villa are going to struggle to get a decent manager in. Their stature and league position, plus dealing with an enigmatic owner, is going to really work against them. Liverpool will probably get Martinez. A lot of managers will want to manage at Anfield.

It's a shame.

Thoughts on Ole Gunnar
Solskjaer as the potential next Villa manger?

He's played and worked under Alex Ferguson. That is all. I wouldn't mind him at all. Such a babyface though. Just a bit risky in terms of how AVB was with Chelsea (e.g. Even Drogba was older than AVB).

Solskjaer has a good reputation among football men. Not long ago SAF came out and said Ole could be his successor. He has done a sterling job at Molde. He took a lot of Man U coaches with him as his backroom staff. I personally think it might be too big a job for him at this point. But... Villa are going to have trouble attracting the managers they want. Ole has a good future in the game though.
